The way I deal with them is having to strafe jump and shoot. Peashooter is a good counter because of his mobility, high damage and generous splash damage.
Pick up on certain tendencies most steam blasters (sb) have. For example, since the majority of them are cocky, they like to move forward (straight or at a diagonal) towards you, you have to aim IN FRONT OF THEM so them, at the very least you can do splash damage.
Next they don't like aiming in the same area twice (unless you are standing still), so you use this to your advantage too. Once they spray an area, then your next side jump is most likely towards their last shot(but obviously not into it).
They spam their primary and most of the time theres a rhythm to their shots. Look at the direction they are facing so you know where the next shot is going. Jump away from where they are looking. Directly after their shot, they will see where you are going and they will try to shoot right in front of you and not really straight at you, so you jump in the other direction (Jumping minimized how much damage you will take).
Jump about 45 degrees away from the scientist. There are times i jump perpendicular to them or even almost directly back, but depends on where the last shot is and where I think he wants to shoot and where he is currently facing.
You also need to learn how to jump, turn mid air, and initiate your sprint as soon as you land, turn towards the scientist, jump, shoot. This is a technique that you only when his blaster is hitting you consistently.
This is generally how I deal with scientist head to head with peashooter. Obviously it depends case to case but, GENERALLY, this is my blueprint. You have to use most all these (and others things I do that I can't think of right now) tips simultaneously.
If the scientist is dumb enough stay and fight while supe is on, then you have to stay in air. Don't just hover tho you have you use a combination of hover and falling straight down.
Gatling is useless against scientist once he sees you. If you kill him from far away, to me doesn't count cuz any zombie in that situation will die. And it's not specific to scientist.
Chili bean is semi useless. It's meant to really scare the scientist AWAY FROM AN AREA, that way it limits the areas where the scientist can be. If he does from it, he is a terrible scientist lol.
This is how much you have to prep for his legendary upgrade lol. NERF PLEASE!
When it comes to Steam Blaster Scientists, I have a character of choice for dealing with them quite effectively. I don’t get vanquished by Steam Blasters too much because of the tactics I employ. The character I use is Nightcap. When they begin to get too close to me, I use Shadow Sneak to get further away from them, or move behind them so I can surprise them and attack before they have a chance to react and counterattack, and keep moving so I do not get hit by the Steam. I avoid using Fung Fu on Steam Blaster scientists most of the time unless their health is low. Casting Shadows is used by me as an escape tool. I do jump and move frequently while I attack Steam Blasters but so do they so that is why!
Also, I find Chomper works quite a treat as well, especially if you use Grody Goop or Spikweed against them as well.

@TheSprinter85I have to agree. I don't die by Steam Blasters that much anymore. And I mean this for every character I play. If they kill me it is simply because they flanked me and I probably had 3/4 to 1/4 of health left. One of the best strats is to literally just shoot at him when you see him in your medium range to long range area. It will force him to use his Warps and healing, so he will be hindered slightly. At close range, do what Fork_x_Spoon posted. Steam Blaster is manageable to deal with.
- 6 years agoYup, that's pretty much my go-to strategy; make him waste his abilities, stay away from him, & get the vanquish! The only problem is when he runs to his team, in that case you're screwed.
