We can't play Plants versus Zombies with the disk in the PS4

My son saved a loang time to buy PvZ garden warfare to find out it won't play without having a subscription of playstation plus. Is this as it should be? Why not mentioning this on the box, why doe...

I believe it displays it on the box on the front cover, above the age rating; most likely saying it again on the back.

Playstation Plus is required as this is an online only game, an active internet connection is also required at all times.
