What is the meaning of the stars?
The star basically means: "This card has a special lasting effect. Click the card to see what it is".
Cards that have an ability that is triggered and ceased on the same moment they are played (Like Pineclone, Sumo Wrestler, Onion Rings, Pied Piper, Conga Zombie, Fireworks Zombie, Zombot 1000, Cornucopia, etc) don't have this special star. Cards that don't have any effect at all also lack this star.
The star only appears on cards that have an effect that can be activated multiple times OR in cards that have an effect that last for at least 1 turn.
For example, Tennis Champ and Bonk Choy also have this little star because it's effect lasts for a whole turn, rather than just being activated and killed when they are played.
Cards that can only conjure one time, like Plucky Clover or Cosmic Dancer don't have a star, because their effect ends on the same phase it is activated.
Cards that can conjure multiple times, like Captain Cucumber and Starch Lord, DO have the star, because their effect can be activated several times.
Small note: This star completely ignores icon based abilities such as Strikethrough, Double Strike, Deadly, Overshoot, etc.
For example, Power Flower has Strikethrough AND the little star, while Cosmic Flower only has the Strikethrough ability.
One card has an ability that can be activated several times after the card is played (Power Flower) while the other has a one-time use only ability (Cosmic Flower).
That's basically the difference.
Small note #2: Bananasaurus Rex used to have the little star.
They basically messed it up when they changed their normal green attack icon to the fancy orange double strike one, but it still should have the star included.
As far as I know, they are going to change it when the next expansion comes up.
