I turn on the game and watch an old school PVZ lawn fight but the game itself and typical splash screen won’t load.

That said, as long as you have Peached equipped, all others are relative to your skill set/play style.  Make sure to get good at direct contact with EMPeach and he’s insane.

EDIT: if you meant buff by way of balance and nothing with upgrade kits, I no longer know the game well enough to truly speak on balance.  I quit before Thorn Apart and Steam Blaster....  seems Zombies would still be at an advantage?
