Yeti Elite Boss Wave Woes

The Yeti elite boss for ops is the worst designed boss fight in BFN so far with the Pumpkin Squash right next to it for just about the same reason:

These two bosses not only have a ridiculously large health pool, but damage resistance on top of it. You're making all damage get reduced to 1. In order to win, the team needs the magical item that lets them do boosted damage while temporarily removing this resistance effect. Okay.

The problem behind this all is that the item is time limited and an AoE effect for only a single person in the party. Your team has less than a minute in order to do actual damage to the boss before needing to reacquire the item after it magically vanishes from the wielder. Need I remind you of the Yeti's AI? IT RUNS AWAY! It speeds around while throwing slows behind it. This is not good for a timed period where your team needs to bunch up in order to do any damage!

The worst offender of this entire boss design is the downtime because getting timed out is how I've always seen parties lose. What would cause this downtime hmm? Maybe it's because you need us to vanquish nearly 20 champion imps that will instantly kill themselves if they get near to you... causing them to not count for the amount needed... which also has the tendency to reset itself... wonderful.

As if that wasn't enough, the item itself needs to be grabbed from yet another tanky enemy that just eats up your time. The plant variant does the yeti in running away the entire time as well. Great. This is not all counting the mob of hero AI that's being spammed at every waking second. It's not uncommon for the map to be swarming with soldiers and all stars when you just want to kill the imps so you can start doing damage to the boss itself.

In the time you finish reading up to this point, I'd be shocked if a team would be able to acquire the magical item and do enough damage for it to even matter. It takes way too much time to get it, and it takes too much time to even chip off damage from the boss while everyone is huddled around the one with the small AoE buff.

Time. Time. Time. These certain, elite boss battles are instant "You lose haha" moments that are a waste of my time.

Here's some proposed fixes:
- Entirely remove any prerequisite from obtaining the magical item. Just make it spawn on the map.
- Reduce boss health
- Increase buff AoE so a team can actually move instead of rubbing elbows and shoulders

It's not even difficult. It's just tedious and impossible.

  • This one and the squash as you point out, are by the worst. I've been super close to getting the squash a couple of times, but the yeti is even worse. Definitely needs adjustment.

  • Great analysis. At this point when I see the Elite Yeti I just want to log out. We could maybe whittle down his health and vanquish him if the timer were twice or three times as long but who wants that? I guess it's the one place where the bonus for getting vanquished a bunch of times in a row comes in handy? I'm not sure if I've done all the Elite bosses yet but it's the only one I just don't feel we have a chance of beating.

Side note - If the Elite Squash is the giant fire pumpkin (admittedly, I don't always look at the names lol), it's been doable by the groups I've had. More importantly for me the other day, it's the only way I would have gotten my 75 pumpkinhead vanquishes done in less than 6hrs.

  • They're tough. Spooky Squash I've done more times than not, though. Yeti to me is equivalent to a craaazy. I've done it, but only twice with a full group of experienced friends with exactly the right team set-up. Lost it loads!!! 😬
  • Glad to see that I’m not the only one who struggles with this boss wave. I’ve had to endure the Elite yeti at least 6+ times so far? And I’ve only been able to complete it twice. TWICE. Each time just finishing with seconds to spare.

Not only do the copious amounts of adds get in the way and spawn right next to you, but it seems it can only be completed if there is a team setup of attack and tank characters at the very least which isn’t always the case as the boss waves are unpredictable. Not to mention some players don’t realise there’s an objective and try to attack the boss constantly, or don’t stay within the vicinity of the buff aura. However for some reason the Squash seems more doable.

  • @Sci_Fazz Yes, that's the key (& it was the same with boss hunts in GW2) If you're with people who don't understand what you need to do, and aren't playing the right characters, then you're doomed!!! I actually lost Ops with the Baron elite wave earlier, which is one of the easiest, because my 3 team-mates carried on trying to kill him when you needed to get inside the circle. Tried everything I could to point out what was needed, but failed miserably! 😣😂
  • @Sci_Fazz I have had the same problem with the elite yeti.  If people understood what to do he is definitely beatable.  The issue I seem to be having is people are not killing the imp and even worse when someone gets the item and has the aura people don't stand in the circle.  Even if you know what you are doing, it doesn't matter.  Everyone, especially on the yeti, needs to be doing damage or you won't make the timer.  I have had quite a few teams beat the squash pumpkin, but I think I have only beat the elite yeti once.  He is definitely a toughie, that I wish more people understood.
