Even Bloodborne and Dark Souls is easier alone than this with 3 others players. Broke my hand just to finish the Normal mode thanks. Need to be more friendly for new players who play with us too.
This is overall a very disappointing game mode. It isn't balanced in the slightest, and the majority of the community suffer playing it. It seems as if it was only made for pre-made teams of professional players to have a hard time with. Even when playing with a high level team who all know exactly what to do, we get steamrolled constantly. And this is just on Normal. I've finally got far enough in the Trials of the Gnomus to need 150 rainbow stars for the two chests. And the game mode had to be nearly impossible. Assuming 3 rainbow stars is the maximum reward... (because winning is far beyond reliable). I've gotta grind out 50+ games. They need to make it significantly easier just to get half of the playerbase to have a chance at winning.
It's not fun, it's not fair, it's grindy, broken, and a total mess. Even people who'd find it easy admit it's nearly impossible to find a team of random 3 players to win with.
Wow, I just had an incredible game on normal difficulty, we almost killed him in three rounds. A friend playing with randoms invited me when someone dropped out at the beginning. I suspect the other two players were partied up. We ended up as two teams of vampire flower and peashooter most of the time except when the fool appeared and during DPS time.
I'm FAR from a pro player, though I would classify myself and my friend as decently good players. I think it just requires four competent players who fully understand the game mechanics and are able to act together, and I think the fact that my friend and I were on mic must have contributed. As I said, I think from the way they were playing that the other two were partied up (likely with mics my friend and I couldn't hear). Germanshu on youtube has a video of a win up with only three players really contributing.
I think that, for better or worse, boss hunt is there more for giving experienced players a challenge and exclusive reward than for grinding rainbow stars. Even if things go well, it takes 20 minutes or more to earn 15 stars. The silver yeti crown looks like it was designed for commando corn. He might be a good choice for a DPS character, now that I think about it, except that peashooter and citron move so much faster.
I suspect that I've improved steadily as a player in the time since the Sasquatch hunt, so it's hard to compare, but so far I'd rank this as the second easiest boss hunt after the Gnomus Brothers, with Sasquatch in close running and Spooky Squash much harder. I never did get a win on that one (ironically, that was the only one I played with a pre-planned team that practiced together). But I've only tried it the one time, so I can't really claim much right to an opinion.
I finally beat that Yeti. You get 15 stars if you complete the game. 3 stars for just playing, but each time you damage him a third, you get 5 stars.
Can't even remember what hat I got. But the red pack I opened just now, gave me a legendary hat.

I think you've missed the point of Boss Hunt.
Boss Hunts are designed deliberately to be complicated, require intense teamwork and to require a high level of skill to complete. It's not a game mode which is targeted at youngsters or novices who are new to the game; the intended player base for Boss Hunt are the Garden Warfare veterans who have high level characters, above average skill sets and experience in how to best use their characters.
The entire game mode is designed to push your skill set to the limit and quite frankly not every player is going to be up to successfully completing it and that's sort of the whole point.

The way I see it, is this is the only way to get rainbow stars aside from the horrid conversion process. The easiest difficulty should at least be accessible by half the player base or more. I can understand higher difficulties being harder. But the easiest being nearly impossible with randoms?
The discussion in the last live from popcap stream confirmed exactly what @realitysquared said, they make the boss hunt specifically for experienced players who want a challenge. Whether it was wise for them to do so with a game mode which is the only way for players to earn rainbow stars for the week is debatable. Interesting fact I gleaned: this Yeti King hunt was the first one of them that they made.

- ApprovedIf the boss hunt is designed for "experienced" players, there needs to be some way to prevent being grouped with inexperienced players. I tried about two dozen times with randoms, and managed to do it once (on normal). Never even got close the other times.
I shouldn't need a hardcore group of players for what is primarily a casual game. I would recommend making normal much easier to give people a chance to learn the ropes, and allowing some option to be grouped only with people who have completed normal for subsequent difficulties.
As it stands... I'm finding it no fun at all.It really isn't any fun. Even Spooky Squash was more enjoyable than this. It's inflated difficulty and poorly designed, and the matchmaking system only makes it worse since most of the randoms you get set with don't know what the heck to do. Shouldn't have to queue up with people of indeterminate and unreliable schedules just to play a boss hunt that should be enjoyable. That's what Boss Hunt is meant to be. Even if it's difficult, it should be understandable to pick up and learn. If you have to make a video explaining how to do it after a good long while, you've screwed up in making it available and enjoyable.
