Are we going to lose all our mini items in the future?

I had difficulty finding a mini item of mine and thought it had been removed from my inventory.  Finally, I found it but the thought of one missing mini item made me think about the possibility of losing all our existing mini items at the NEW Pogo website that is evolving.

If our mini items are made from Flash or Java code, there will come a time before the end of 2020 when they will need to be converted to HTML5 code or will be retired and an entirely new line of HTML5 mini items created instead. So, are we going to lose all our mini items in the future if they are made from Adobe or Java code?

There are 2 things that I enjoy most about the Pogo website. One is chatting with friends while playing games here.  The other is using my mini item collection that I have accumulated over the years.  I am sure I have over 1000 mini items.  One of my pet peeves at the Pogo website is that the mini mall is not producing new items and not recycling old items like before. So the issue of mini items is a very sensitive issue for me.

I do understand this is a difficult time for the Pogo website because of the situation that Adobe has created by ending its support of Flash code at the end of 2020 (essentially 1 year from now).  I also know that it would be much easier to create a new line of mini items with HTML5 code than to convert thousands of old items to HTML5.  If Electronic Arts decides to eliminate all our mini items without replacing them with similar items, then your problem becomes OUR problem.

The Pogo website has changed so much in the past year that it's not the same anymore. Taking the next step and removing all of our mini items will make it significantly less recognizable. It will be like looking in the mirror and seeing a different person for each of us. The Pogo website name may be the same, but the feel of the website is being lost.

The response I am anticipating from the EA community managers is either no response because of negative backlash or a reply such as "an announcement will be made in the future".  Either response is to be silent on the possibility of bad news that is coming next year.

What I would like to know is … Are we going to lose all our mini items in the future?

  • Today I switched over to Early Access Experience to view what the new Pogo website will look like. So cold and sterile ! It's not for me and I'm sure it's not for many others here who are familiar with the traditional look of the Pogo website.

How nice that the avatars we have to chose from make us look like Nestor, Poppit Cactus and the other characters from new cartoon crew. I now know the answer to the question I raised.  Will we lose all our mini items?  Absolutely yes, probably to be replaced with more cartoon characters.

Perhaps a new generation of people with low expectations who stumble upon the Pogo website will find some value here.  But not me.  After seeing the new look of the Pogo website, I wish Electronic Arts had made the decision to keep operating with Flash and Java games and the classic look, and then close the doors at the end of 2020.

The Pogo website had a good run for several years. I'm happy I was able to be part of it and enjoy it during my years here.  I will be able to hang on to some of the remnants from the past before it's all taken away.  But the sun is setting on the Pogo website.

                          Rest in Peace Pogo 😢

  • I am guessing it is possible for our mini losses due to the upcoming end of adobe flash era...

as you can see the representation of the new layout, our profile icon on top right w/c I pointed become nestor character...our mini icon/avatar has change, no mini on the left side w/c we had to see most from the classic version...The new layout format has change a lot, w/c all images turn to viewing pictures or photos, thumbnails and videos like a Media Player or Windows Media Center...

Things are pointless when it comes to an end...

    Hey there, @cafedelon.

Thanks a lot for your feedback. We do appreciate it.

As Early Access is still very early, there's a lot of features still being worked on and built into the new site. For example, chat is slated for Phase 3, and we're in Phase 2 now. The site isn't done, and that's okay. We're using this time with Early Access to gather feedback like yours to help continue to build Pogo.

We encourage Pogo players to play around in Early Access, and let us know what the sticking points are for you. What do you miss from Pogo Classic? What isn't intuitive for you? All this can help us build Pogo for the community.

Please keep an eye on the Pogo Insider Blog for updates on Early Access. Updates will be posted there first.

I've canceled my club subscription. It's a sad day - I've been a member since pogo was AOL Games, back when I connected to the internet through AOL and a dialup connection.

I can't justify spending money on a site that continues to remove the features I've paid for in the first place, without giving any sort of compensation.

How many gems have I spent on mini items that are just going to go away, with nothing to show for it? How many gems have I spent on badges for games that I'll never be able to play to actually EARN those badges? It's a lot, and it makes me feel stupid and taken advantage of for wasting so much time and money on a company that doesn't value their customers enough to at least compensate them for this time and money. The only thing that would make any of this better is to refund gems to customers who've spent them for mini mall items and unplayable badges- but I don't see that happening, so I'm done.

I was honestly hoping I could hold out until some of this got better - but it's been almost two years now since tokens were removed from html5 games and we still haven't heard what the replacement will be (doesn't really sound like EA has any ideas on how to fix any of this.)

So very sad. I've tried as hard as I can to give honest, in depth feedback, but it doesn't seem like the developers or company cares to fix the serious problems. And at this point the most serious problem is compensation for items that are being permanently removed.

@mememe1128 I am sure there will be no compensation for virtual items being bought or for items being removed. It is sad that we loose things that we have come to love.
I have also been a MANY year pogo player and have spent countless hours and money on my mini and playing games. I am still hopeful that EA will bring back games that we love and HOPEFULLY find a place for our minis.

With the new Pogo being early days, I can only wait to see what happens.

    Good Luck

  • This is sad that we are going to lose everything. Besides the games and making friends a fun part of pogo was getting to change our minis to go with the seasons, holidays or just your mood that day. Very unhappy. Not sure if its going to be worth the yearly fee.

Did you read the post right above yours? You not losing your mini, you can still change it up with item you  already own.
