I am having the same problem. I have had this problem for weeks now. It is making completing the events hard. I just ended the game with 3 tiles and you can't use a power up to win.
We have both reported this and it seems nothing is being done about it by EA. Absolutely annoying and frustrating and you would think that EA would put it right.
