A city without skyscrapers.

I got to 5 mid level building before they stopped offering upgrades on new buildings. I think the skyscraper are ugly and I would liked a city with mostly mid level buildings. Why can't I use my space to make two small towns. Why do I have to upgrade every build to skyscraper. Is this a competition to see who can make the ugliest 2 million population city. When I started playing this game I thought you could make any kind of city you want. Hopefully in future update they will give an option to stop upgrade on a building and give more variety in building style.

  • Yes, I totally agree. Why are we forced to upgrade all buildings to ugly skyscrapers? I don't care about population.. There are many nice small buildings in the game which I want to have near a beach, please add option to reject upgrade and remove that upgrade bubble!!

You are definitely right. I have posted many times on the facebook page saying the same thing. Their are 2 things that need to happen to this game to prevent me and many others getting bored of this game and deleting it. One is the trade centre, we know this and so hopefully do EA. The next is the variety of buildings. This is a must for me. I want to be able to toggle the builders hat upgrade icon, upgrade the buildings I want and keep some we see in the upgrade process. There are some fantastic buildings, why can't we keep them? We don't all want the same skyscrapers, we want tower blocks, condos, medium buildings and house, like a REAL CITY. The game is about looks, not just population. I would be happy to spend money for extra content, landmarks, gallery's, museums, commercial and financial buildings, lakes, parks and airports etc etc. what I will not do is spend money to speed up the game to get 20 odd Onyxlux scrapers or 25 odd Wilson towers and such like, this is BORING and not unique or exciting in any way. I am incredibly frustrated because what EA have done so far is amazing. Just a few tweaks to make this an incredible experience for us and a money making machine for EA. Keep us engaged!

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one with this concern. I wanted to put in some beach houses and small hotels along the beach. A couple of apartment building next the the university for student housing. It's just strange that this wasnt part of the design of the game. Right now I'm not sure what the point of the game is. I guess I'll make simoleons and expand the land until it changes because I am done building skyscrapers.
  • I am so glad more people feel this way, even though there are only four of you 😃. i sent an email to EA, asked if this was something they would consider introducing. I dont think i will bother playing much longer if they are not even thinking about it. I godt this rather arrogant and i guess automatic answer:

"Hey Mayor, thanks for contacting us!

As long as your citizens are happy, they will want to upgrade until the building is so wonderful it can't be improved upon! At the moment there are 6 levels of upgrade available for your residential buildings, skyscrapers are the limit.

So why might you see bigger, better or different buildings in other areas or cities? It depends on the Land Value - how wealthy that area was *when* the building was upgraded. In the residential building menu, tap the blue column icon - you'll see Land Values displayed in blue, which indicate how desirable an area is. The more desirable the area, the more luxurious the residences will become. Tap the yellow hard hat to check to see the Wealth Forecast screen - this will tell you how an upgrade will affect a building's looks. But remember, it's still possible to see an older, less luxurious skyscraper in that dark blue area. It just means that it was upgraded a while ago, when the Land Value of that area was lower.

Make sure to add as many specializations as you can. The more specializations that overlap = the darker the blue areas = the more desirable the area will be to your citizens!

If you'd like to ensure all residential buildings are as luxurious as possible, make sure the areas have high Land Values before you upgrade. If you have an older building that you think is letting the tone of the city down, you can move it further out and start building a new residential zone in its place. If you want to really be extreme, you can demolish it and start again! But be aware, either of those options may result in a drop in your population levels, either by losing those citizens altogether, or losing the population boost you had from nearby services. The life of a Mayor can be tricky sometimes!

The aim of the game is to build your population - if a building is upgradeable and its residents are happy you'll see a hard hat over it to remind you it can be improved upon! There is no way to turn off these notifications."

And so on, feel free to contact us again they said, so I did. saying I just I wanted to know if they would consider making it an option to say "no, i dont want to upgrade this building now, I want it to stay the way it is". A simple yes or no to that question.

I dont think they will answer me again i am afraid

Yea that seems like a pretty generic response from EA and doesnt actually address the original concern.

I used to play with the aim of getting all top eight skyscrapers and I had reached pop 400 000 before deciding to bulldoze and start over. But now that im rebuilding and most of my land value is high because of existing services, The only buildings I spawn now are top eight luxurious, and I agree its starting to look too uniform.

So Ive actually started spawning buildings in low value areas then moving them where I like to see them. My old city had an old downtown core near the freeway exit which only had the standard forecast max buildings and it just looked right to me. Sort of a historic district. Also the various mid level condos like willowick are eye pleasing. Also note that as wealth forecast/building grade doesnt affect population or revenue, theres no disadvantage to doing this. All fully upgraded buildings generate equal population and income whether theyre standard, premium or luxurious.

I realize however this doesnt address the original concern and only speaks of fully upgraded buildings. But it is somewhat of a compromise and I look forward to spawning every type of fully upgraded RZs. But I would like to see an option to toggle off the upgrade helmet for those who want to play more for the eye candy aspect of the game and not worry about revenue as much. Actually, an easy fix would be just to have the helmet appear only when we open the residential menu at right.

    Hi CJDoom_81

How to build old type one like blue condo if you had upgraded level (I'm level 35) ?

A big "Me Too" on this one. They've done such a great job with the varied architecture that I'm wanting to keep a lower-rent section of town, a midcentury-modern section, etc., and want to be able to turn off the upgrade options for some lots.

They could even require keys to re-enable upgrades. Or piles of simoleons.

Otherwise, if this is just a race to have hundreds of skyscrapers and a bunch of helmet thought balloons, I'm not going to be very interested in continuing to play.

Like mentioned above I did a rebuild and having good services and edu/trans/ent overlapping all my build area everything is all the same few high end skyscrapers now. I was considering doing another rebuild soon but like an above poster I will just build some lots outside of services to get some more building variety.

It would be nice if there was a building skin system where any max level building can be skined for 1-2 keys to look like any other earned building.

This game is silly and stupid as it seems to be always urging the player who is so pose to be creative to always upgrade, we are not little children though it seems that there target audience is for the autistic and regarded!

so far most city's I've seen are uninteresting and basically the same....game play is a real bore....this is the only game I've ever encountered that would eventually time out the player session as well and the only way to actually proceed is to actually take a break and come back some hours and maybe even a day, it trolls on time and is the worst game ever, I should have never started playing this!

i cannot say I was having fun, this is not fun, the waiting game is so silly a game design it should have failed horribly as a game design engine, the only thing that keeps us going is the artistic fact that we actually want to make a pretty city and every house is actually a trophy only it may be ruined by that silly yellow helmet!

there should be the option to upgrade it but actually retain the chosen structure design, example being, why not maximum upgrade a Japanese home but even though it's population is the same as a skyscraper it can still be a humble half timbered Japanese house.

also with all the new updates, it's hard to determine where this game is going. I am very happy for speed token houses , just wished that was introduced from the start!
