Can't play Simcity after installing CyberGhost VPN

Due to some cyberattacks on my network, I've had to install and run with a VPN. Ever since I installed and started running CyberGhost, I can no longer play Simcity. I keep getting errors connecting to the EA app. If I disconnect the VPN, the game starts successfully. If, however, I then connect the VPN, the game shuts down. I'm playing offline in single user mode so I don't know why I even need an internet connection to begin with. Why would a VPN prevent me from playing a single user mode game offline?
