Contest of mayors - upgrading zones/buildings not completing assignments

Hi all, I am experiencing a problem in completing assignments when they involve upgrading zones or buildings in the new regions. Last round I had an issue in Sunny Isles where I upgraded multiple buildings (foundations through the various levels) but each time when I checked in contest of mayors it still said I had upgraded zero. Now in this round I am having a problem in Frosty Fjords for the second time. The assignment is currently still active but it’s going to expire in about about an hour. Thus far I have upgraded three buildings, not foundations, and still it is saying zero. It is such a waste of assignments, products and time as there is no way to complete it, the alternative is to cancel it completely.

I think it must be a bug but I don’t see any other recent reports of it. Is anyone else having these issues?

  • What exactly is the assignment you are talking about?
If the assignment is something like: "Upgrade some Frosty Fjords zones" (I don't know if this is the exact English assignment, I'm not playing the English version), then it does not mean you have to upgrade any building in the Frosty Fjords region, it means you have to upgrade any Frosty Fjords zone or building regardless in which region this zone exists.

So, upgrading normal residential zones or Tokyo zones or Paris zones or... in the Frosty Fjords region will not help to fulfill the assignment.

Upgrading a Frosty Fjords zone placed e.g. in the Green Valley region will help.

I understand the point you are making and you are correct the assignment is to upgrade a specific named zone.  Whilst my capital city does have mixed zones of the older type, ie; Paris, London, Omega etc this is not the case in the newer regions. I’ve only placed Frosty Fjord in that region, Sunny Isle in that region etc. It’s not a case of accidentally upgrading the wrong zone as, for now, I’ve only placed the native zone. It does seem to be that sometimes it recognises the upgrade and sometimes it doesn’t.

I’m assuming upgrading a zone involves placing additional new foundations and then upgrading the building. There are also assignments that say upgrade a building of a specific type and for these you usually can just upgrade any qualifying building that isn’t a foundation.

  • When you place a new bldg in green valley, the first time upgrade is “upgrade the green valley zone”, after that, you are upgrading the green valley building.

  • Hi

I have raised the issue to the game support, and their answer is that I was mistaken I improved wrong buildings even if I told them that it happened several times. From what I am seeing, they are not reading forums neither as I am not seeing any answer on their side.

  • @tagann You might want to double check and make sure that it’s a regional building you’re upgrading...we’ve seen this situation a couple of times where folks upgraded a residential building in the region instead of a regional building and didn’t complete the task. I believe this is what they are trying to communicate. Good luck.

  • Go to the zone you want to upgrade.  Create a new house specific for that zone but don't upgrade the house yet.  When there is no room for a new house, bulldoze a house and rebuild one specific to that zone. Then go to the assignment list and select the assignment to upgrade that zone.  Upgrade the house, and the assignment is completed.    Collect your assignment reward and have fun!

That sucks because you don’t get the pink circle points for upgrading the regional houses.
