Yes, people play this game for many reasons, some for total population, some for "aesthetic" reasons. Whichever way you choose, is not right or wrong. No one way is right, the government is not forcing you to play. This game has many "know-it-alls" their knowledge based on their perceived success. Just because you have something that someone else doesn't, doesn't make you better. Opinions are like a--holes, everyone has one. Our inalienable rights that we are born with protects our right to have different opinions.
i too started using these forums to learn things about this game. I thought that by learning the nuances would allow me more enjoyment from playing. Why make the same mistakes others have made when you can learn from them? And although that worked well and shortened my learning curve, what I quickly discovered is that some people did nothing but complain. The game is fixed, people are cheating, EA sucks, it's too hard, it's too easy, etc. this has caused my participation in these forums to be sporadic. There are enough problems in life without having to listen to others constantly complaining about a video game.
i have been accused at times of being an EA apologist, working for EA, liking EA, cheating and causing the financial collapse in 2008. These couldn't be farther from the truth (including the financial collapse.) I have questioned EA's actions many times, I think That some things in this game are ridiculous, I think the game sucks all your resources, attacks your weaknesses, all of which contribute to making the game challenging. It is unfortunate that EA doesn't write the code to each of ours standards and preferences. The bottom line is "you can't fight City Hall" meaning they are not going to change it so your only method of attack is to quit playing. If that is not an alternative then bite the bullet, suck it up, quit bellyaching and play
Two things stand out after reading these forums that I don't understand. The first is the concept of "winning." I have never found a finish line nor have I seen where the game actually ends. I assume people are referring to the COM, and help me understand this. Does finishing 1st in a weekly COM constitute winning? Winning what? The trophy you earn must be lost in the mail and although it feeds one's ego to finish first, that gratification last about 3 seconds. Isn't it about getting promoted, earning season points, earning those season-specific free buildings? At least it is for me, I got plenty of gold keys with nothing to spend them on so whether I finish first or 29th this week doesn't matter. Keep the keys and the turtle tokens
The other issue and I have addressed this more than I want to, revolves around the "money-sucking" behavior of EA and/or players spending "real" cash to play and buying their success. My understanding is that EA is not a non-profit company, meaning they try to earn revenue by producing a product that consumers purchase. I have never found in any of their literature where they guarantee you can play this game for free. It clearly states "in-app purchase." To me this means you can buy stuff if you want or play the game without and possibly achieving lesser results. To compare, I assume that many of you playing this game actually have jobs. You go to work, perform some kind of function and are rewarded for this by receiving money. Your employer must generate revenue in order to pay you, you certainly wouldn't continue to work for free, right? Why would EA be any different. Yes they are money- sucking beasts whose only motivation is to grab every dollar from you that they can. And so is every other company that is in business today. Can you go to the movies for free, or a sporting event? Probably not. A company can't give away its product for free and make up the difference in volume
The last issue concerns spending cash to play. It's as if you buy simcash, you are on the level with child molesters, nazi sympathizers, air polluters or any other kind of low-life criminal. I have been playing since June 2015 and probably average spending $10 a week. I have chosen to spend, not forced, and quite frankly I could not play this long without buying simcash regularly. The game would slow to a crawl but my point is now that I have admitted that I do spend, I haven't shown up on the FBI's most wanted list. People use this as an excuse why others are doing better. "Oh you only got to level XX because you spent so much money". The trick would be to figure out how to maximize your dollars and receive the most bang for your buck. Anyone can throw wads of money at something and achieve less results
i really would like to start a thread which would not allow complainers but I think it would not get many posts. One last thing (finally). It is my understanding from reading many posts here, that EA does not participate in these forums. So any posts that attempt to get their attention fall on deaf ears.
i am going to crawl back under my rock for awhile now. Play nice, children...
