Epic Projects Are Impossible

80 is definitely possible. I've done two so far and got to 80 on both of them.  160 (for gold), on the other hand, is just plain crazy.

It seems to me that the big problem with Epic Projects is that we tend to think we can accept them & climb our way to the [180] top tier upgrade at the start.  Having given the Projects a little more consideration, I believe the devs' intent is for us (regarding Epic Projects) is as follows:

• Make Bronze-level upgraded buildings to begin stock-piling Turtle Tokens.
• Turtle Tokens will be used to upgrade buildings to Silver-level status to produce Llama Tokens.
• Llama Token stockpiles are used to push for Gold-level, Cheetah Token producing buildings.

It's so easy to see those Cheetah Tokens and declare to make those first without having the necessary infrastructure to attain such an advanced goal.

Needless to say, I have a loooong way to go.  I don't expect to have any Gold-level buildings for several months at best.

Are you saying that this is your belief of how the tokens work (using turtle coins to upgrade a building to Llama) or that this is how it actually works?  How do you use tokens to upgrade a building to the next tier?

Use tokens during your Epic Projects to speed up production of required items.  Focus on 2 or 3 point tasks if you have them. Don't bother with 1 point tasks if you can avoid them. Check to see how many 2 and 3 point specialized building you have before your accept the Epic Project. If not many, use the refresh button, instead of accepting.  The refresh button is just like the button used when requesting new plan for building upgrades.

my Mountains and Education buildings have the most 2 and 3 point buildings. My Transportation and Parks don't, so I refresh until I get to high point specializations.

i have about 6 Llama buildings and 5 Turtle.  I haven't bothered to try for gold.  I don't care to commit the time.
