Get rid of epic projects

I've already got more than enough epic buildings, and so many stockpiled speed up tokens that I don't even really need the epic buildings. How to I get the game to stop prompting me to start a new epic project?

The reason I don't like it is that I can't see when items are ready from my regions, because instead of showing me whether items are ready there is just the helmet symbol - meaning I can start an epic project. 

I don't know if there is a glitch in my game or if you're just supposed to constantly be doing an epic project.

I've seen a lot of posts saying buildings will go back to normal if the epic project runs out of time, but that hasn't happened to me. When the time runs out my only option is 'start again'.
