Please change the rules in a war for shields

Please make changes to wars on how long you can be under a shield. We lost two wars because the teams stayed under shield the few hours. It ruins the competition when a team can just hide under a shield instead of fighting. Ideas on how to make changes...all shields are lifted during last hour of war...Shields go away after a time period....only 5 teams can be under shield at one time...teams are penalized for staying under shield too long like minus 50 points every hour under shield...bonus points for not going under shield...bonus points for undoing a shield within a specific time. There needs to be a way for a team to still get points if the other team has everyone under a shield...maybe huge bonus points for the team that puts all players on the other team under shield? PLEASE change something. It is disappointing to have a whole team with ammo and ready to attack and the other team just hides under their shields.

    Thanks PinnacleValley, understand and agreeing.

Just another little focus on another possible point of view (not shared by me, but when I analize something I use to search for every possible point of view, ad a devil's attorney): SimCity isn't born as a war game. I'm 45 years old, I've played almost every version of SC, since the 2D first release, and SCB is the only one with wars, even if SCB top weren't born as a war game.
So, many players doesn't play it as a war game, using wars only to complete COM missions. IMO, leaving war missions from COM would almost resolve the turtle clubs problem.
    Best regards
  • Hi meesfeet,

Thanks, just to clarify I still don’t agree with the “strategy” to hide to win...

Roughly 20 years ago my 6 year old son started playing SimCity with his 8 year old buddy and trying to be a good Dad I would sit down with him after supper and he would “teach me the game” and I found that he was learning about economics, resource planning, decision making, budgeting, etc. and was having fun (of course we didn’t let him sit behind the computer all day) and I guess that was part of the appeal. He probably played until he was about 9 when he found other games were more fun... What I was most impressed with in the Maxis game it was developed to be very simple or very complex contingent to how you approached it.

I started playing SCBI when It was released it and found it to be a some what watered down version (but completely understandable) and was here when COM was introduced, the start of the mayor’s clubs and the war games which caused an uproar and quite honestly a drastic increase in cheating and shortcuts. I agree with you and even stated in the forum it was highly unfair to include war game assignments in COM. I do appreciate your optimism that this simple change would address the turtle strategy and for some it will (Hi Bethann 🙂 ) but for too many more It doesn’t matter.

    Take care.

    Hi PinnacleValley

I already knew you don't agree with that strategy, as I watch this forum at least once daily, even if I'm not writing a lot.

What I'd like to clarify is that I'm not for that strategy too. At least not when abused, staying domed for hours and hours. With my club, sometimes we decided to stay bubbled 2-3 hours near the end and then get out together for a mass-attack, but I think that's not enough to call us a turtle club.

That said, I just don't share insulting people for using a legit strategy I don't like. IMO cheaters are a problem way more worst than turtles.

    Take care!

Hey all, this back and forth bickering ends now, if you cannot post without insulting another user or continue to drag the thread off topic simply to have a go at one another then I will be locking this thread and action will be taken.
  • Our club almost disappeared because members are fed up when the opponent team turtles under shield as soon as they are in the lead. Unfair and boring that is. I suggest an amusing rule which should make the wars more exciting:

If all the members of the team is under shield when the war finishes, the team loose regardless the score. At least, one of them has to show its nose before the end.

We just finished a very good war with back and forth fighting, at the end at least half my players were missing due to  shift changes and other problems which I knew about so thats ok but several of us wanted a final battle, as soon as we turned green were put back in dome. Tell me how much fun that was, cleaning up so we could fight but were unable, they were too afraid we would win. I do not expect a win from 20,000 deficit but at least give us a chance, we enjoyed the fighting until they domed us over and over and over.

  • Honestly, it sounds like you had a great war and your opponents were available to attack. That’s really all you can ask for. This is where “real” strategy comes into play where the difficult planning and coordination to get out of the bubble has to occur. I’ve been there before and it can be frustrating but certainly possible, sounds like losing some of your folks made it difficult but your opponent had no way of knowing and quite frankly didn’t care They were simply doing what they signed up for. Regardless of what the scoreboard said at the end you still won! The great news is you didn’t have to watch paint dry or grass grow... Good luck on your next war and hope you win again, no matter the final score.
