I'm sure the developers take into consideration how much progress one can make with no real money investment and entice us to do so by making progress slow and painful. However, I respect the quality of this game for the actual investment you need to make, which is nothing. For those of us who have been playing since' the beginning what feels like starting over from scratch is in a way just that. A new system that will take a while to generate the income nessecary to grow your city even further.
I can agree with some of your points but Oscar faith in the developers. When the Vu tower system was first implemented it offered little benefit for any city that did not have adequate cash flow or storage. Eventually they lowered the prices and the problem of the market being saturated with gloves, buttons, and batteries fixed itself immeadately. I'm hoping the same tweaks get applied to the Omega items once they realize that the complexity and cost will be a turn off to a lot of users.
