I get a gold epic project every single day, it takes me 2-3 hours. I'm level 53 with 350 storage though, life isn't meant to be so easy at lower level.
For new players I would recommend getting a bronze epic project every day, and silver for mid-level players. It will help a lot.
I sincerely doubt you get a gold building a day. That means you complete 90 tasks for 3 points specs. Which means you complete 1 task every 2 minutes, which is *. Can't be done. Most products take much more time to be ready, and there are dozens of different types of products.
I'm lvl 54 in my main city, 24 in the other one. I had to spend all my Bronze, Silver and Gold tokens from both cities, I had to produce stuff in both and I had to spend many hours (much more than 3) to get one Silver. If I had more 3 points specs, it could have been a Gold, but even so, it's not something I can repeat.
So there's something off in your story. I don't buy it.

I have 350 storage, I start with 5 of most items before I start. I have 3 x 6 token buildings. That's 54 completed tasks for 160 points.
I typically get to 100 before I start needing to shop in GTHQ.
If you check out this thread, you can see the new gold building that I get daily.
Tomorrow i'll take a screenshot of the time remaining before I make the building.
Here's an old pic of my completed projects. I currently have 10 gold projects and 2 old silver projects.
I've also included a screenshot of my token buildings for each specialization.

Still not the correct math. I also made a mistake, it's 84 tasks to get to 250 points (10 to bronze, 80 to silver, 160 to gold). 100 points is not even half of what you need to gold token.

Clearly you haven't produced a gold project yet. The numbers don't reset when you get to bronze or silver, the score keeps counting up to 160 (gold). You don't need 10+80+160, it's just 160 total.
