Until someone from EA admits this I don't think we can know for sure, but it certainly seems that there is some player manipulation going on. Either way, the GTHQ is basically useless 99.9% of attempts to purchase. That EA has done nothing to actually improve the situation certainly makes me think they might be intentionally hiding required items.
