Unlawful Advertising

EA,

The past couple of weeks we have seen advertisements in the gaming platform for Simcity Buildit that according to Federal and our Sate law is illegal and it violates those laws.

What are we talking about? THC products.

We have contacted the in-game help to alert them about this. They have sent a reply saying: "we will make a detailed case for this and send to the appropriate channels". Just like all of the other issues we have let them know of - and nothing ever gets accomplished. So we will use this forum to get these ads removed.

Each of the Federal and State laws (that we live  in) state: you cannot use TV, multimedia, and/or a platform that involves  minors to advertise on. Plus if an ad is allowed there, it has contain a warning about the side effects and or health related issues. The ads we have seen in SCBI do not contain these warnings.

So take this as a notice to remove these advertisements or we will report our findings to the appropriate authorities.

Thank you

  • For those who have read this post. EA for the moment has removed those ads. We have not seen one since we had posted this note.

Good for them, however this brings up another topic. EA is taking the advertisers money with out regard to the contents of the ad. Where is the review process on EA's part? Don't you think that EA has a responsibility to review what ads to show? We would guess not. All EA is interested in - is grabbing people's money.

I recommend contacting your device platform (Google or Apple) to report this in the meantime. They have rules that EA must follow to be allowed to have Simcity listed in the App Store. If you are in the USA it is a quite a serious crime to advertise an illegal Schedule 1 controlled substance.

    DeadCityDeadGame,

We have done what you have suggested. Reported them to Apple, filed a complaint with our State BBB, filed a complaint with the Federal Drug Enforcement Agency. We received a reply back from the BBB and our complaint was approved and sent on to the corporation for a response. This company is not only breaking the law but has no regard for anything they do wrong. Just another corporation that thinks they are above the laws in this country. The reason why we filed these complaints is that after two days of not seeing these THC ads they came back again.  So we took screen shots and short videos as proof and sent them to the BBB. In the in-game help EA's support team replied: "we do not have any control over what ads as shown". What? Negligence is not a proven defense.

  • Why are the community managers marking these posts as "solved"? We are guessing to try and stop the thread. Is this not special? Not only do we encounter censorship but these people are trying to stop the complaints by marking them as solved. What a joke.

Too continue - this has been going on over 6 weeks now. All of these issues with service 2. This company does not have the guts to fix this game and relinquish this new rollout. What? We made a mistake? Don't even think that this company will own up to their mistakes. We have seen that in the past.

By now one would think that the development team would have a handle on this. The complaint list keeps growing and growing.

Our suspicion has now become reality. They are not going to fix this. Half the reasoning behind this is "you cannot tell us what to do", an authoritarian style of thinking. The other half is simply money, remove all the old players and lets get new blood in here - we can get money out our them.
