A problem with SC 2K special Edition

I posted the question bellow on the SimCity Facebook page and was told to re-post it here.

A problem with SC 2K special Edition. I tried other SimCity forums and got no answers.
1st off I have a HP Presario C700 laptop, OS Win 7 Home 32 bit. I have the SimCity 2000 Special Edition cd. With the dos version of SC 2K, SC 2K windows version and both the dos and windows version of the SimCity Urban Renewal kit on the cd.
I just got done doing a partition wipe and reinstall of everything from the backup cd's including the Win 7 operating system.
I have SC 2K for windows set in XP compatibility mode with the color set at 256. This settings have worked in the past. but now when I try to save a SC 2K city scenario, lets say "the alien attack city scenario". Instead of the save as window popping up SC 2K just crashes out to the windows desktop. I have never had this problem before. It doesn't mater if the cd is in the drive or not. In all respects Win 7 and all other prog's that I have reinstalled work 100% AOK. I also tried del SC 2K for Win and reinstalled it. No change, same problem. I could use some help please.

    @Reble Hmm, I'm not familiar with the game, but one thing that pops into my head is that a lot of old games assumed that you had everything installed on the C drive and can go a bit loopy if that's not the case. Can you check for this and reinstall on C/the default location then check again?
