Can't load SimCity

Can't load SimCity. I've been at it for over an hour and contacting support is, well not help full. Here's the screen shots of the error and a screen shot of the main screen while trying to log in.

They did tell me there might be an issue with the servers and to try again later. Doubtful, but OK. Try again tomorrow.

  • This issue started in November 2024 with the release of EA App version 13.387.0.5900. There’s no way to downgrade or get the old version of the app if you’ve updated to this version or beyond. It bricks multiple older games. It’s not a Windows issue. The only solution is for EA to update the app again to fix the issue. At this point I wouldn’t be surprised if they never fixed it. It’s not a server side issue as you cannot launch the game when disconnected from network or in single player mode. Which is also why people on older EA App versions can still play. The games .exe is trapped inside of the EA App and the EA App simply does not allow the game to launch.

For the time being, if you’ve updated to 13.387.0.5900 or beyond, SimCity 5 is dead. There is no fix and it’s possibly the end of the game.

It will launch a number of times after hitting ‘OK‘ on admin privileges but after a number of times the game will not launch anymore.

Hi, I also am getting the error when I try to load the game. I may have found a workaround, but it is not ideal...

I played the game in the past while logged into a standard user account on my PC. I tried to play the game again recently, and learned of the error. I tested logging out of my standard user account on the PC and into the administrator account (kept distinct from all other regular users for security reasons) and I was able to play the game (but none of the old city saves yet; I'm guessing that should be possible to copy around in explorer). This setup is not ideal however because playing in the admin account kind of defeats that security measure.

So from what I experienced this seems to be more of a Windows security issue rather than an issue with the game? I know we have seen suggestions to "right click and run as admin", and those types of things, but I guess maybe there is some other layer of authentication occurring while the game is loading to check if the user is an admin or not? Hopefully the results of my testing give someone smarter than me a clue of how we may be able to fix this issue in a good way.

Having the same exact issue with the game. Was playing it with EA play subscription but decided to buy the game and can’t even get it to launch.

edit: had to put my laptop in airplane mode to get it to launch…. there has to be another way

Decided to play some SimCity and it seems someone (EA, Windows or another?) wants constant permissions from us to play.
