12 years agoCleaning up germs
My SimCity residents often say, "this are is not healthy" or Ew, germs," when I am sure there is no pollution and a clinic with open space nearby. Any tips?
What do you see when you go to germs map? (health buildings has fast access to germs map)
I'm thinking that there is some air pollution. Education will help with germs (less sick people due to germs). Hospitals without Wellness Vans, or Clinics will not help with germs, they're there to treat the injured and sick people. Wellness Vans however, will clean up the germs, one residence at a time (requires hospital - high upkeep). If there is a traffic problem, garbage that hasn't been collected for a long time is also a germ reason.
I'd keep going on, I mean there is no instant fix to health problems, it gradually improves (well, it doesn't actually, but there'll be less sick people as your education goes up, and less air pollution as your industry advances to high tech, then maybe you can afford & sustain a hospital with wellness vans, etc...).
So, there is no way to clean germs other than education or wellness vans right?
Hi @OTR24 - educated population and the hospital wellness center with vans will eventually help, as long as you get rid of whatever is causing the germs. If your germs and/or sickness is coming from pollution or garbage, you'll need to clean up the offending areas, or it's a losing battle.
If your garbage is piling up, make sure you have enough garbage trucks and that traffic jams aren't preventing them from getting there. Check for ground pollution - if you're still dumping sewage into the ground, upgrade to sewage treatment plants. Check your industrial areas - if you're running OmegaCo, your factories will be filthy and probably polluting the entire area. If you're running Omega factories, the fastest way to clean up ground pollution is to research and plop ground scrubbers.
If you're not using OmegaCo, you can plop trees to filter ground pollution. This can take several months and the trees will die off as they absorb the ground pollution, but it does work. You can find the "plop trees" tool under Parks > Nature > scroll all the way to the right. Plop a ton of trees around your garbage dump and factories, replenishing every time you think about it and the ground pollution will clear up. Trees will also help filter air pollution, but the best way to handle that is to build your factories downwind from your other areas. Be mindful of the wind direction when you zone industrial. Also be aware that air pollution can blow over your city from other cities in the region. In those cases, your best bet is to line the border with trees.
For water and sewage - I always put my sewage treatment plant right next to the water pumping station. The sewage treatment plant will treat the water and dump it into the ground so the pumping station is always pulling treated, clean water. You don't even need the filtration pumps, just use the cheaper, regular pumps and let the sewage treatment plant filter the water. As time goes on, you'll end up with a massive amount of clean water in the ground.
I hope this helps! Happy building!
