Compatibility of SimCity 4 with Windows 7

I have just purchased SimCity 4 Deluxe edition and attempted to install it on my Windows 7 machine. The game runs and appears to be functioning perfectly when first installed however it will not run again from either the disk or start menu. What is the problem and is there a fix as I noticed this was one of the games you gave away to purchasers of the new SimCity in March this year.

Thank you for your help,

Regards,

Terry Brown

I'm sorry about the incorrect product showing above but it wouldn't allow me to click on SimCity

Open task manager, find the SimCity 4 process and then end it.  Exit Origin, right click on SimCity 4 in the start menu and then click "run as administrator."

I opened task manager (process) & SimCity4 is not listed, even tho I downloaded it (successfully) & have an icon. But when I clk on the icon, no matter what I select it does not open the game. also clicking on play when I put in the disk also nothing.  Running Win. 7 any solution.  The game loaded okay, just won't open/run. at all.

This forum is for SimCity 2013, not SimCity 4. If you post your question in the "Other SimCity games" forum, you may get some better answers. A couple of basic things to try: run in Administrator mode; make sure your antivirus or firewall are not blocking the program by adding the exe to the exception list; right-click the icon and disable Origin in-game; try running in compatibility mode (right-click icon; preferences; run as...)

Newer graphics cards and monitors can be a problem. The game was made to run on older monitors. Try forcing the resolution and turning off the intro movie via the command line. Right-click the icon, go to the end of the text box.  If you have an HD monitor that runs in 1920x1080, add

    "-CustomResolution:enabled -r1920x1080 -introff"

to the end of the command line; no quotation marks, make sure there is a space between the executable and the -CustomResolution. This post: https://www.gog.com/forum/simcity_series/simcity_4_tips_for_running_on_modern_windows/post1 had some more in-depth resolutions.
