Could not start the renderer [1001]

Ladies and gentlemen, can anyone help me with this? Got SimCity 5, gone through the endless registration process with Origin and installed the game, all good, but now I can't actually play it, getti...

If you accepted the "Creators' Update" to Win10 two weeks ago, you now are forced by various incompatibilities brought by that update, into reinstalling all kinds of things, unless you think as I do, and will restore your system to its pre-upgrade status, until Microsoft can offer a better version of the upgrade!  Meanwhile, since an Intel 4000 isn't supported, you could expect trouble with it. 

You might offer us a look at your DxDiag report that might suggest some other possibilities.

There was no way for me to get back to a previous version, since i reinstalled windows 10 on my laptop. I did however mess around with graphics drivers, and managed to get the card working now with simcity, i also have to say that the only game that was affected by this so far was simcity.

What i did for my amd 7970m card was a bit strange, first i disabled the auto update/install of the windows amd driver (it locks up windows completely when installing)  using the tool provided by microsoft to hide updates.

Then i installed a older amd driver, version 14.4 (for windows 8.1). After that i was able to install the lastest amd driver (it would lock up the pc also on a clean install). It then still gave me a error, so i installed the newest driver agian, without uninstalling. After that i was able to start up the game. 

After this very wierd workaround, i reinstalled windows agian to try and see if there was a better way to install the graphics driver, no luck so far. I then tried the same method as above and it worked agian.

      I've read this thread and others like it and I'm not finding a solution with this. I have the current version of Windows 10. I have a Nvidia GTX 1070 ti. Still, I am having this error message. I've played this in the past with no problems. I don't understand what has changed.

      I've tried...

      • reinstalling the game
      • reinstalling drivers
      • making sure all drivers are current
      • disabling the in-game feature both in the Origin app and in the game properties
      • PC restart
      • rolling back windows
      • rolling back graphics drivers

      I don't know what else to do. I have an AMD Ryzen 2700X, 32GB RAM, GTX 1070 ti all with current drivers. It would awesome if someone could help shed some light or help me. Thank you in advance!

        Hi @thelunabell - Here are a few things to try (I know you've done a couple of these already, just added them in case others read this):

        1. Make sure Origin.exe and SimCity.exe are added to exception lists for your anti-virus, firewall and any other Internet security software like Ad-Block. I know when my anti-virus updates, it occasionally likes to change settings for no good reason. 
        2. Always run install programs "As Administrator"
        3. Set the desktop icons to run SimCity.exe and Origin.exe "As Administrator"
        4. If you have the sound program Nahimic 2 from MSI installed, disable or uninstall it. 
        5. If you have any mods installed, remove them
        6. Make sure your graphics drivers are updated to the most recent version. 
        7. In Origin, right-click SimCity icon, Game Properties, check the box that says "Disable Origin In-game"
        8. Set the SimCity desktop icon to run in Windows 7 or 8 compatibility mode.

        If none of these work, try a clean boot and attempt to launch SimCity. If it launches, you'll have some detective work to do, enable one startup program at a time, reboot, try SimCity, until you find the program that is blocking it. Then you can disable or uninstall the offending program. A clean boot won't stop your anti-virus, so disable that separately.

        If you still have issues, reply back with the error message and symptoms. If something works, it would be great to hear about it. Good luck!
