The OP offered zero for information, and naturally cannot expect any answer as a result.  You cannot know your problem is exactly the same, because of that self-same failure of the OP. 

For that party, if you return, and if your error message did name a graphics aspect, you need to include the Vital Specs of the PC and of the OS, as well as give a far more complete description of the situation. 

I have windows 7 vista, I baught the game and uploaded and installed and recieved the above error, I uninstalled and reset all my drivers, re-instaled and revieced the same error code. I dont know what this means or how to fix this.

i baught the game yesterday and for the last 9 hours have tried to get into it. the error will not let me into the game at all.

This may be related to the update since these 2 posts are the first 1008 errors listed.

The weekend is not a good time for this since the devs aren't around.

If there was a GPU issue regarding being able to play the game, the error message is usually more specific.

256 MB graphics mem? Shader 3.0? Maybe post your graphics stats to see if there are any similarities.

P.S. It's Windows 7 or Windows Vista, not both. Unless you have a dual boot 🙂

its windows vista lol, I have looked into everything and all my drivers seem to be up to date. I have googled the error code and I cant seem to find any info on this. I have a mac pro as well running 10.8.2 so worst case ill wait till friday to play since it doesnt seem to work on my PC

I have same trouble, but my configuration is not expected.

- I could play at XP Home (~ max. 128MB VRAM due to the OS limit) on VMware Fusion 4 (2GB RAM & 2 CPUs assigned for VM) before the update 7.

- However, I got the error 1008 after the update 7. I got the same error on Fusion 5. I don't remember well, but the error would be before the server selection window (~ no title and no music).

- Then I heard that there was an update of Origin client as well - but my Origin was old. Then I got updated Origin but it means that the update order is Simcity -> Origin. Still I got the error.

- I uninstalled Simcity then reinstalled. Still I got the error, but now the error is after "play" button click on the server selection window.

I can wait Mac version. However non-VMware users, can you play it on your XP?

The Mac version will be a much better environment for the game than Vista or XP. We'll have to wait for more posts on 1008 to narrow down the issue though.

You should at least be able to install the Mac version tomorrow (26th pre-install) and see how that goes.

Windows 8

A typical Windows 8 solution would be to set your Origin and SimCity desktop shortcuts to "Windows 7 compatibility mode". Worth a shot.
