How do I disable the Cities of Tomorrow Expansion for SimCity?

I just purchased the SimCity Plus pack because of the recent sale and am just getting started. The thing is I'm already seeing my residents popping up in futuristic homes with laser fences and the like, without even asking me if I wanted to utilize any future technology. Is there any way to disable, at least temporarily, the expansion? I figured I'd get both because it was a good deal but I want to get started with just the basic game.

Short answer, no. Long answer, you can just not build any of the new xpac buildings. The way the futuristic stuff works is that when you build something from Cities of Tomorrow it creates a radius around that building which turns all RCI into futuristic buildings too. So, if you just refrain from building stuff form CoT you will be fine, however its not so clear for new players which items are from the xpac and which are not. To be fair, there isn't much from the xpac.

  • So I do all the step but when I started the game it says DLC.1911 could not be found, why?

@Arya_Ahnaf123 - The game can't find DLC.1911 because you deleted it. To get your game back to a usable state, I suggest you right-click on the SimCity icon in Origin and choose to "Repair" game. This will reinstall the missing files.

EA does not support deleting files as a way of managing what content you see / use. Unfortunately, there seems to be no way to completely disable the Cities of Tomorrow expansion. The command line switches that work in newer games do not work with SimCity, and even if you uninstall the game completely and reinstall only the base game, the game will install all the packs. They are managed by what is unlocked on your account.

The best way to avoid the CoT expansion items in-game is to just not use them. Don't use anything with the blue pattern behind the icon, which designates it as a CoT item. When you place one of the items, it will begin to futurize the area around it, and new construction will be built with the futuristic theme.

You could try contacting Customer Service to see if they will disable the pack from your account. Not sure if they'll be able to do that now (as SimCity is a legacy game and no longer actively supported). The only other option would be to open a different account and purchase just the base game, if you're that dedicated to playing SimCity base game only. I don't recommend that, it would obviously be very expensive and limiting as far as having 2 accounts. I just mention it because it IS an option (although not a great one).

    Happy Building!

I don't know how you could have flagged this as solved. There is no number to call and the menus that are available have no option to disable the DLC or even talk to anyone about it. There is no EA 800 number listed anywhere. (I know it's been 7 years, but I did pay for the game and I would like to try it without the DLC. I think that's the least I can expect.)

Hi @GravelBunny - Contact EA Help at this link: https://help.ea.com/  Log in at the top right, and choose your country from the drop-down box. Choose the appropriate support options (Game or Account issue / Platform / Topic / Issue) and then click on the blue "Contact Us" button on the bottom. You will be given a choice of contact options depending on your country and the time of day.

For this issue, I would suggest choosing "Manage my account" and "Manage account details". This will get you to the appropriate contact options to request that they remove the Complete Edition of SimCity and activate the base game. Be aware that when you want to play the full game, you will need to contact them again and ask for the switch to be reversed. Alternatively, you can choose to keep the full edition and not use any of the futuristic items from the DLC. This would include any ploppables with the blue hexagon background (such as parks and water towers) and anything in the City Specializations that have to do with the Academy or OmegaCo.

There is no way to run just the base game - I own several different versions, but no matter which version I try to play it always loads the complete version. I don't know why they did it that way, but being a legacy game, there is no way that it will ever change.

Hi @KicsiHusi06 - The post you're replying to was made in 2016. I don't know if their suggestion ever worked, but I suspect that the folders and files have changed since then.

I only know 2 ways to play without Cities of Tomorrow - the easiest way is just don't use the CoT features. Any ploppable in the menu with a blue hexagon background is a CoT addition and will futurize the area around the item. If you don't use them, the game plays as the base game does.

If you really want to completely remove it, you can contact EA Help - Log in, Choose "Manage My Account" > "Account Details" and request that they remove the Complete Edition from your account and replace it with the Base Game edition. (Simply buying the Base Game edition will not work as Origin will install the Complete Edition if it's on your account, regardless)

There is no way to remove CoT from the Complete Edition; it is incorporated into the game as an Expansion, not a separate dlc

Thank you. I got in touch with customer support and they said they were unable to disable the expansion. Is there anything else I could do?

Oh and the customer support was really great. I recommend it to anyone else who needs help with a game.
