Re: How to force re-alignment of Regional Progresses from inside a city in S.U.M.?

No Way...

I've tried with both the old file and with the freshly renewed file.

I think the old file is bugged because if I put it on line the city won't open with "cannot open city at this time...".

Does someone have some other ideas?

At the moment the only chance could be:

- drop the config file,

- Enter the city,

- Transfer all my simoleon in another city,

- abandon the city

but I prefer to mantain the city active...

Thanks for the answer

So the new file doesn't update if you load the other cities in the region & save them?

    Correct.

I restored the original file (and could'nt open the city anymore), opened the region and for each city but the one faulty:

    - I opened it,

    - waited for every message to be registered

    - I saved  it.

At the end I've tried to reopen the faulty city but... no way. The issue arised again.

I removed the 'delta' file and for each city but the faulty one I did the same procedure.

At the end reopened the faulty city but the progress of the region is still invisible.

I waited for one or two hours but... no way.

    The progresses have gone...

I think that only the development staff knows how to reactivate the message broker to redispatch all the progress of each city...

I think that's the only way.

And I begin to think that the part of software involved in the original issue ("cannot open the city at the moment") could be the Message broker breaching the delta file (or whatever) actually.... supposing exists one to push all the messages in a region to the subscribed cities.

    Any other idea?

    Ciao

You could try SimCityRepair.exe - Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\SimCity\SimCityRecovery. I think I would remove the file completely and then run SimCityRepair.exe. I'm not certain how sophisticated the program is, if it will draw the info from the other files, but it's worth a shot.

If that doesn't work, the only other option to save the city would be to request a rollback. Since the game is no longer supported, I'm not sure you can get them to do it, but if you can find someone to take pity on you, it might be possible.

You've certainly gotten farther than anyone else on getting rid of the "can't open city at this time" problem. From what I understand, the issue is usually caused by corrupted data most often due to the server response being so slow that not all the data got back to the client in time. It was a huge issue when the game first came out, and there were a lot of automatic rollbacks. I really hope you can get it to work, it's so painful when you've spent a lot of time on a city and then suddenly can't access it. There are a lot of abandoned cities due to this problem.

    Hi BlackJack, just for curiosity...

I casually stumbled across another issue related to the one we are discussing about:

In another region (always local) with 5 cities (all accessible) and 1 Great Work (still to be done) I realized that two cities (the still unclaimed) could not see just ONE of the projects of the Academy present in another city: The fusion reactor.

I entered the city specialized with Academy, reached the 4th level, and completed ALL of the researches.

No way, in the two (just claimed, i had to do it to test) cities the project is NOT AUTHORIZED. I can see all the projects  but that. So I plopped the academy building in one of this two 'strange' cities and took a look at the research panel. Surprise:

The list reports ALL the projects regionally available but the levels 2,3,and 4 and the Fusion reactor!.

The advanced fusion reactor was available and the standard one no... bah!

So I can say that the problem is in the message publishing module from the 'Cities of Future' package.

    Just for curiosity...

    Thanks for the help

    N

Forgive my ignorance: what's the XP? A sort of vote?

That is really strange about the fusion reactor and Academy upgrades.. I just tested on my offline region and in both a previously claimed city and a newly claimed one, the reactor was authorized. It took a while, though, because I had a lot of messaging going on.

There are definitely some things that are just plain bugged in this game, especially upgrades via research. The one that annoys me the most is the university upgrades.

I usually end up plopping 2 or 3 universities in a city to get enough students attending. The game gets confused & the upgrade button stops working on all of them by the time I get to level 3. It will unlock all the research & let you proceed with all of them but you can't place the last 2 add-ons. I have to demolish all of the universities, and plop a new one. The new one will be fully upgraded to level 5.

And yes - the XP button is a sort of vote, a "like" or "helpful" sort of thing.

Did you get a chance to try the repair tool? I hope it works for you.

I always work offline, too, and once a week or before I make a big change to one of my cities, I will "save as" a copy of the region so if anything goes wrong, I can load the last working copy.

I also turned off the auto save, so I can use the "load" button if I don't like how a change worked out. I'm terrible at drawing roads & spacing, so it helps for me to figure out how I want to place stuff first without worrying about how expensive it is to keep demolishing buildings & roads.

Won't help this time, but might save some trauma in the future.
