    Hi everyone,

Newest AMD drivers should solve the graphical issues you have shared with us. You can download updated drivers from AMD's website: https://support.amd.com/en-us/download

I'm marking the thread as solved, but please, don't hesitate to let us know if you are still having similar issues after updating your drivers from AMD's website.

    Thank you!

i contacted the EA "help" chat, that I am having the same problem. They told me to post on here, thanks so much for all of the great help, instead of playing the game I get to post on here. This is so much more fun than playing the game.

That does look like you have an older AMD graphic driver. Did you try the posted solution at the beginning of this thread?

Most problems can be solved doing the following:

    1. Set Origin.exe and SimCity.exe to "Run As Administrator"
    2. MSI's sound program Nahimic 2 - disable or uninstall
    3. Older AMD graphic drivers - make sure your driver is updated to at least version 18.1.1; download most recent drivers from AMD's website
    4. Bitdefender antivirus - disable or uninstall
    5. Graphics settings - set resolution to 1920x1080; turn off dual monitor settings (game does not play well with 4k)

If you still have problems, please let us know your current setup and driver version

That is really strange; I notice you have dual cards - are you running dual monitors? There have been some reports of problems running dual monitors and 4k resolutions. Since the game is older, it wasn't built with the newest builds in mind. I know it's a pain, but maybe disconnecting all but your main monitor and dropping the resolution to 1080p would help. If it seems laggy, you can force it to 60 fps in the game settings. Make sure Windows is updated, reboot after changing stuff, yadda yadda. 🙂

I have a similar base build, i7-7700K CPU @ 4.2 GHz, Windows 10 64bit, 32 GBs RAM, but my card is a GeForce GTX 1070. I run the game on max settings without a problem, so you should be able to.

Another thought -  SimCity has a DirectX installer, I think it uses DX9 or DX10. Maybe that didn't install correctly. Try going to \Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\SimCity\__Installer\directx\redist, run DXSETUP.exe (right-click, choose to "Run As Administrator") , just to be sure the version it needs is available. If it won't run for some reason, you can download it directly from Microsoft here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35

I hope some of this works. If you still have the problem, some of the logs might help

    • Post a dxdiag report. How to Dxdiag
    • In "<origin_games_dir>\SimCity\_Installer" find the InstallLog.txt and attach that
    • In "<origin_games_dir>\SimCity\SimCity\SimCityUserData\Patches" find the UpdateLog.txt and attach that

    Good luck!

I am not running dual monitors. I do have oculus rift, but I have already tried unplugging it and restarting the computer and it did not help. I tried the directx aswell with no help. Here is all three things you posted that might help.

  • With the most recent AMD drivers it should be working just fine. If you have steam/origin/uplay you can add me if you want. My name on all playforms is SubsidedLemon. I'm no expert but I might be able to assist you as a fellow gamer 🙂

Thanks Kerwin! I hope @armyguy66442 takes you up on your offer. Like you said, the newest drivers should work. I would love to hear back if you all find something

I suggest you take advantage of the offer from @SubsidedLemon and add SubsidedLemon as a friend on Origin. It is probably going to be easier to fix with someone in real-time rather than going through multiple posts like this.

Looking at your logs, they are pretty comparable to mine except that you had DirectX and VCRuntime already installed. I see that there was an error posted in DxDiag for SimCity.exe; the error code is not very useful (and I'm terrible at deciphering dxdiag reports anyway)

I am just not seeing anything that points to an obvious problem. Maybe a random file is corrupted somewhere, or a weird program incompatibility exists. Make certain that you don't have MSI's sound program, Nahimic 2 or BitDefender running. If you do, you need to completely disable or uninstall them.

Set both SimCity.exe and Origin.exe to "run as Administrator"

Run SimCityRecovery.exe (as Administrator) from \Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\SimCity\SimCityRecovery (Don't try running from menu, go to the file)

Choose to "Repair Game" in Origin - open Origin, right-click SimCity icon, Repair Game

Right-click SimCity.exe, choose Properties > Compatibility tab; Check the box to "Run in Windows 8 Compatability Mode".

Under  Properties > Compatibility tab, click "Change High DPI Settings" Check the box that says "Override high DPI scaling behavior" and choose the scaling to be performed by application.

If none of these work, try a clean boot and attempt to launch SimCity. If it launches, you'll have some detective work to do, enable one startup program at a time, reboot, try SimCity, until you find the program that is blocking it. If you find an offending program, disable or uninstall it so that you don't have to do a clean boot every time. (and reply back to let us know the program)

Fingers crossed you can get this resolved soon. Good luck!

I just tried everything you said, including adding SubsidedLemon to my steam account. So I hope that he will be able to help me.
