Recently downloaded simcity 4 on origin. the first game that i have brought. however when i go to play the game the game icon flashes at the bar on the bottom of the screen and then disappears. I would like to play the game now so any help would be well received.

Sorry for the late reply, are you still having issues with your game?
If so, please, try to reinstall the game. If there's an issue with the current installation, that should fix it.
If it doesn't help, could you share more information about your computer? A dxdiag would be very helpful. You can find instructions on how to get a dxdiag here, and you can attach it to your answer.

Try this:
In the Control Panel (not Settings), go to Programs and Features -> Turn Windows features on and Off. Open the Legacy Components section and tick DirectPlay.
