It looks like this issue was resolved yesterday.

Disconnect from your wifi. Start game. It will give you option for single player or cancel.

This is so hard, why to shutdown Wi-Fi if can just sign off from Network (not from account) in EA App.
STILL busted. 72+ hours.
Still nothing tangible from EA either.
