    @i24get

    You quoted me making a comment about a MS Surface Tablet being from another world compared to Windows 3000, and no one should expect that ancient game to work on such hardware, & then launched into a diatribe about whether it was right to distribute Simcity 2000, but not Simcity 3000, and acted as if we here at Answer HQ had any influence about what EA does with its old stuff.

    I chose your old complaint, with the subject title from my two year old, or older, comment, when my comment this morning was hidden around some odd corner here, and would not come into view until a newer post bumped it a little.

    In this one thread, we have four years' worth of assorted posts that are not all strictly related to Simcity 3000, and sometimes are either incomplete, with missing comments, or out of order by real chronology.  It's a poor choice to use as a basis for griping.  That was really what I was interested in saying early this morning.

  • Couldn't figure out how to post in this thread, I'm an Ea-Forum-Noob.
    In windows vista, 7, and 8, Microsoft rolled out a security patch that disabled a *potentially* security-vulnerable driver known as SECDRV.SYS. It just so happens, that nearly all old games pre-2003 or so require SECDRV.sys to be running in able to play the game. Simcity 3000, sadly, requires this driver. If you're still on vista, windows 7, or windows 8, it's fairly easy to re-enable the driver and play the old games through the built-in registry editor, and there's plenty of websites with tutorials (Just search-How to Play PC Games That Require SafeDisc or SecuROM DRM. If you're now on windows 10, like me, Microsoft opted not to ship the driver at all, rendering all the old games unplayable on windows 10, unless you get them through a digital download site like origin, or GOG. I've seen people reenable the driver, and I actually tried to copy the driver from my Vista PC over to my windows 10 pc and, but that didn't work for some reason (If anyone knows I'd be happy for any help).

    That's the long and the short of it. EA can't do anything but release it on Origin if people are to play it on windows 10, because the driver needed to use the disc itself isn't even included. Those of you with earlier windows, follow a tutorial to reenable the driver.  I have also attempted running these games through an XP and Vista VirtualBox, because I lost my dad's copies of 95 and 98, and I had no luck with those either.
