Tutorial Bug: Buy Water from Lucky Shores, No Neighboring Water Providers

Hello,

So I've been working my way through the tutorial and got to where you have to buy water from the neighboring town of Lucky Shores. I got to: "Water 1/5    Lucky Shores has way more water than they need, so let's buy some of it. Click the Water Button."

I clicked said button, and was greeted by the message:

"NO NEIGHBORING WATER PROVIDERS"

I can not click on anything now, time is still going in the game, planes still flying, clouds still moving music still going, but I cant click on any buttons. Origin still works and can be accessed.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Side note: Second Bug I've run into since running this within the last hour. First was that the Tutorial loaded up, and Summer Shoals would not load, but the UI still showed up and operated. I can confirm that I installed from a DVD and ran the SimCity Recovery tool and it fixed this issue.

  • Still an issue in 2021. Just bought the game on Origin. As it's EA, I'm not even surprised anymore.

  • EA play here, good thing I found this thread as I had to force shut it down to get out of it. I'm new to the series entirely so it's disappointing to see that something as basic as this was never fixed.

Hi @Narc101 - It is a frustrating bug, especially for people unfamiliar with SimCity. Poor tutorials are a pet peeve of mine. I don't know how this happens for some people and others never experience it. It might help to try disconnecting from the Internet first, and then running the tutorial. Besides the tips in my earlier post, I would suggest the following:

Firewall and Antivirus - Make sure SimCity.exe and Origin.exe are added to exception lists. If you have BitDefender installed, disable it.
Graphics drivers and OS are patched and updated to newest versions
SimCity.exe and Origin.exe - Set them to run "as administrator"
Nahimic from MSI - this is an audio management program that comes with MSI motherboards. Disable or uninstall it. Nahimic 2 & 3 are known to cause issues
Disable Origin in-game In Origin main menu, right-click SimCity icon, Game Properties, check the box that says "Disable Origin In-game"

Here's a direct link to the original Game Manual for an overview of the gameplay.

    Happy Building!

Manually adjusting my firewall settings to enable the game in private networks fixed it after a game restart. Thank you!

  • ATTENTION $$$$  If any big wigs read this and want to make this game make $$$ please pay attention!!  Fix the 9 year old game bugs.  This specific bug is in the TUTORIAL for the love of god!  The game never was finished/tested so do it NOW.  This game is still a top tier AAA game and can and will sell more copies.  But only if customer service is given to it.  My number one complaint??  Fix the leader boards and the game will be a popular MMO City builder.  The problem is cities that you spend days creating bug out and get corrupted save files and you lose your city.  Every time I quit its because of this.

Sim City is hands down one of the oldest best knows IPs in the world and you are not capitalizing on its potential.  Fix this PC game and you will even improve the mobile sales.  Sim city player since the 90s.

This Bug still exists in December 2023!

The good news though is that it's easily fixed by:

    1) Deleting the SimCityUserData Folder located here: C:\Program Files\EA Games\SimCity\SimCityUserData

    2) Repairing the game from your Library in the EA App.

Once both of the above are done you should be able to Buy the Water and finish the Tutorial. 🙂

*Thanks to BlackJackWindow in post#29 for this solution!
