Hey folks, I sent this up to the Maxis team for investigation. Will update if I hear back. 🙂

I purchased ALL DLC and even have the crest+plumbob park+leaf. I called EA cust support several times and even have a T2 ticket in.EA support has VERIFIED that I own ALL possible content for SimCity, there is simply NOTHING else I can buy/get.Origin screenshot:http://s24.postimg.org/ua9cwvkdx/dlc.jpgIt is rediculous that even though I own ALL content that I still have issues claiming abandoned cities! I have reinstalled, repaired, abandoned and rejoined, joined new servers, etc etc etc. This is a GAME BREAKING and UNFAIR bug. I WASTED $40+ on DLC simply to have ALL content to RESOLVE this error, TOTAL waste of MONEY!EA/Maxis! There are 26 editions as posted above! Quit assigning GUIDs to each edition/city and instead run a check in the engine for DLC assets!A good solution?Dev DLC content check instead of GUID per edition. When player attempts claim of city with missing DLC, give option to bulldoze assets in city that the client is missing. Client missing french DLC but french police station in abandoned city? Bulldoze it upon error message when player accepts dialog.You can not claim this city because you do not own some of the content used to create it, bulldoze buildings with missing content?Y/NYours truely,An enterprise webapp developer, QA tester and freelance game developer.PS.I'm also annoyed that your QA team missed the many DEBUG messages that still exist in the engine. 3 years later and this is STILL a problem, and if you talk to EA support, they STILL tell us to post on the forums.Useless customer support, game is broken.

I had the same problem with a friend. We both had the limited edition of the game. This is what I did to fix the problem.In my copy, I had redeemed the "Nissan Leaf Charging Station". I asked my buddy to do the same. This fixed the problem immediately.Have you upgraded your copy of the game since you bought it? More importantly, has your friend done the same?I don't know the issue relates to Deluxe & Limited edition users. I would be such a bad idea if a player can inherit a feature that comes with a reclaimed city. (maybe with certain restrictions)

Why claim cityies anyway? Just build your own. 😕mileyfrustrated:

I have the deluxe+limited..iow everything.
I have yet to find a claimable city that does not give this message. -.-

I've got limited edition and no one is able to join my game as I'm unable to join their game, and all I've got is this message "you cannot claim this city....".

Ok so now that I can finally get on to servers I now cant claim a single city, everything gives me this stupid message. Please fix this or make the search better so that I can filter out stuff that I cant connect to this is very annoying because your join game screen sucks it gives me no options at all so im left clicking through cities 1 by 1. VERY ANNOYING.

Finally some answer, try to understand us we bought your game because we want to build cities with another people. Btw. I am just missing some kind of filter in joining game section because all games i can see are full. 🙂 I hope that these problems are gonna be fixed fast

I don't know how to fix this problem, but it is because the old owner of the city had the Collector's Edition of the game.
So the city has probably buildings from the extra content of that Edition. That's why uou can't play that city.
I have this problem in a region I set up. Next week I'll try to let that player (he has now an other city in the region) completely empty the city. Maybe that will solve this problem a bit.
A better solution would be an option to demolisch / remove an abandoned city...

The filter has been temporarily deactivated to help relieve the servers of the strain of so many city builders looking for a new region at once.

As the Maxis team said, it should come back up once they are sure the servers can handle the load (more info on this with the latest update from the Maxis team: http://www.simcity.com/en_US/blog/article/simcity-update-8 ). 🙂
