San Van fog, and future event-themed weather/lighting

I saw a couple days ago that the fog for San Van is going to clear up and we'll go back to it being sunny on Nov 3rd, I'm very happy to see this personally. I like getting clips, and this fog makes filming just really difficult because the lighting is so flat and the editing tricks to make the visuals pop just aren't really possible with the fog and the overcast lighting.

Initially it was cool, and I enjoyed the theming for a day or two. But when it comes to future events that change the map, I really hope that it's either optional and can be turned off, or the map has lighting that makes it so that the map keeps it's dynamic environments. Isle of Morg has really good lighting, and because of that, it works much better there. In San Van though, it just feels sort of depressing really.

I'm not a massive fan of Halloween, so maybe that's why I got fog fatigue so fast. I'd be interested to hear how other people, especially filmers feel about it?

Definitely. At the moment skate is my chill happy place after work. Now everywhere is gray lol. Go to work gray. Grocery shopping gray. Meet friends gray.  Play skate gray. Cutting videos from the game gray. lol yeah i´ve also done the spot scouting. Well i actually did make some clips but i´m doing them again.

With the rain I´d be for everything. Well both i guess. Like an hour of rain and then an hour with puddles. I´d also make it that the game locks you into a powerslide after reaching a certain speed and then trying to turn.😆

No idea if that would even work. Guess the animations might look weird when the slides barely slow you down.

Personally i would just really like to try longer powerslides and crazy spin combos on a mannypad (said it already but waxpatches in the object dropper would also be a possibility) but it doesn´t have to stop there. Ultra high speed handrails is some other thing i could think of.

Could of course just be an alternate version of san van you reach with the ferry or something. Then you could really experiment with it. On the other hand having such things being an event is also fun i think, seeing everyone slide around or into curbs/walls. But too much is surely gonna **bleep** someone off (not that i really care but.....)

Also nostalgia. Guess a lot of people remember this being alot of fun (aside from having to buy new bearings)

I'm glad someone else can relate to the depressing feeling. I've been scouting spots to hit up when the weather's better, just like I do in real life! lol.

Rain event would be mental, would you wanna have the whole ground be wet and slippy with active rain, or just puddles of water around the map as if it's just stopped raining that affect the gameplay? I think the latter would be a cool way to blend the idea without it totally changing the whole map.

yes, way too long and depressing. they should have had 2-3 more variations for the event(dusk, night, dawn or whatever). so everything would be the same lenght as the first change before the fog.

bit of variation generally would be cool, but with the fog and the different lighting, some obstacles are kinda hard to see properly, that could be annoying on the long run maybe. which i think is the reason that stuff isn´t already in the game. but personally i don´t think that´s that big of deal if i have to put a little more effort into skating a handful of spots for a few days.

i would like to see some rain event. just for a few hours every day for a week(so every timezone can try it) with the traction on powerslides and reverts turned down.

Like I said, the fog was fun for the first day or two, but 3-4 weeks of straight fog is a little too much for me! I imagine if there was some dynamic systems in place, it probably wouldn't be like that. If we had some kind of fisheye torch toggle that could also be a massive help with shooting in foggy, overcast, or wet conditions.

I like to go with whatever is the intended vision for the map at any given moment, I think having varied weather across clips would be fantastic. It's just the sheer consistency of the fog ykwim?

  • I love the fog!, I grew up skating on the coast where we get this thick marine layer come in so in that aspect it feels nostalgic and cozy, also a someone who loves getting clips the foggy darker atmosphere compliments my style, I was getting so tired of the constant sunny atmosphere coming from someone who's always enjoyed more moody darker lighting. and I am going to be sad when it's gone.

But I totally understand why people wouldn't like it and I agree that it should be an option to turn off if the weather becomes dynamic, I think for events we should all be experiencing the same though because it's temporary and fits a mood Skate. is going for. with that particular event.

what I want to see in the future

dynamic weather with a seamless transition that feels natural as the default but let players choose what they want to skate in as client side option.
