Season 5 idea: Fall Damage

I think the next season could be a really good opportunity to give some care to the bailing and stunt mechanics in the game which presently feels quite tedious and tame compared to Skate 3. Obviously the name is a reference to the fact that S4 will end near to the start of fall, and taking fall damage is a thing in games.

Here's a short list of ideas I think would be helpful to make bailing better, from the point of view of someone who makes reels, and sees a lot of failed attempts and bails.

  • Bringing back Hall of Meat with visualised damage (I know the game's got a low ESRB rating but we already see a dozen references to broken bones, missing teeth and bruises, it's not that much of a jump surely?)
  • A suite of new sounds that match with what body part you land on. A head will have more of a clonk sound, whereas landing on your hands might make a bonier, slapping sound.
  • Stunt challenges are less about giant spread eagles, and more about teaching the player new mobility options and ways to look at the map. What about a speedline/stunt challenge that has to be completed off-board and requires you to map a parkour route that gets you to the end point quickest?
  • New replay editor camera mode: POV
  • Add rigidity to the ragdoll so that it doesn't fold in on itself in a way that the human body cannot.
  • Fix the momentum bug affecting the slide/roll board mounting mechanics. If you don't know what I mean, just slide down a big hill and then press Y/Triangle. You stop in your tracks and there's a bunch of new exciting ways to play that we're missing out on.
  • Add dust being kicked up, when you land on certain materials or in certain places.

Like I said, short list. But this idea has been on my mind for a while, I really hope we see something like it. Thanks for reading.

A timed skate/stunt/run challenge would be fun. It would be cool to incorporate getting off the board and running in some challenges. I wouldn't restrict it to just running personally, but it's a good concept.

When custom parks are released, it would be rad to have start/progress/finish checkpoints for maps. Players can then make any kind of map they want.

  • I was thinking a parkour/Bail upgrade would be a nice update and maybe some cosmetics to match like a upper body cast or leg cast type stuff.
