Some feedback
I've put a ton of time into this game already, and despite all the bugs and the overwhelming amount of negative feedback, it's been something I've looked forward to playing every single day. This game is so much fun, and with every session, I've found something new and entertaining to keep my attention.
With that said, I'd like to take this time to offer my thoughts on a few things:
The Good
The feel of the game is almost perfect
On-board
The flick-it system is spot on. Locking into grinds is easy. Speed glitches exist (Shh don't tell anybody). Powerslides are awesome. Overall, I think the on-board mechanics are top-notch.
Off-board
Being able to climb is so necessary in this game and I'm glad that mechanic exists. I do think the "parkour" mechanic is missing one thing though, which is the ability to jump from poles/ledges to other poles/ledges in succession. (See this YouTube video for example)
The world is packed with skateable spots
Full stop. Any argument that the world is "small" is moot. Just look around for 30 seconds and a new spot will appear.
Quick dropping with other skaters
This might be my favorite thing to do. Building an impromptu spot with other people in the world is just so much fun.
The Bad
Some bugs I've ran into have been quite consistent
Return to marker bug during (and after) (line) challenges
I return to my session marker a LOT. My chances of this bug appearing are high, but I think (and have no way of confirming this) the chances are increased because of the fact that I start every challenge by getting off of my board and setting a new marker. (It's easier to accelerate from on-foot than it is from on-board.)
In my head, the bug is more likely to appear because it suggests to return to marker because you fell off of your board, but when you return to said marker, you're still off-board and it doesn't like that.
As mentioned in other threads, the workaround is simply to close the game and open it again.
Stunt challenge target stuck during (and after) the challenge
I don't have much insight to offer here. It would be nice to understand the root cause of this issue if anyone has any data to share.
As mentioned in other threads, the workaround is simply to close the game and open it again.
Audio/Music/Narration
Soundtrack
While I LOVE the soundtrack, I think something needs to be done to make it more random. I realize there aren't a ton of tracks yet, but some playlists only have a few songs on them. If you play one of those playlists, it just repeats after the few tracks are played, resulting in a very repetitive listening experience.
Sound FX
Every once in a while, after a huge slam, the sound effects of the skateboard turn off. This issue seems to fix itself after another big slam, but it's incredibly distracting while it happens.
Narration
Personally, I don't mind Vee at all. There is a lot of (what I'm assuming is) missing narration audio though. I'm not sure if this is due to the audio not existing on the back end, or something that I'm doing. It seems that every 2-3 challenges that I play are not narrated (but the subtitles are on the screen). Not a big deal, but figured it was worth mentioning.
The Ugly
I don't have many gripes with this game, but the builder boxes are very misleading. They show as having a bunch of objects to quick drop, and while that is true, they also have a similar amount of calling cards (I can't remember what these are actually called) that are not included in that number. It seems for every object that I get out of a builder box, there are 2 or 3 cards. Admittedly, I am using one of those cards, but I think it should be a bit more obvious that this is the case. If a builder box says it has 34 items, it's probably more like 34 objects and 34 cards.
Three Suggestions
1. Deadzone settings for sticks and triggers
2. Mark all menu items as read (especially for quick drop objects)
3. A vertical axis for quick drop objects
I'm excited to see where the game goes from here. Congratulations on the release!
