Battle Points

Have never played any form of online game such as Halo, Warcraft or Battlefront 1. And as I said, I have no interest. Have found the vast majority of the online community to be a**holes. The battle points, loot crates, star cards and credits are all totally confusing. Have read through the AE online help and watched the in game tutorials, still can't make heads or tails out of it. If the game is that disappointing, maybe I should just return it. Sounds like I've wasted $80 bucks.

I'm with you, I'd much rather play single player games. But I still play online games because they almost all are now. I just mute everyone.

Now, I don't want you to return it just because of what I have said, but... I'll let you know, if you are only going to play offline, then all you'll get out of your $80 is a 4-5 hour campaign, that I personally don't think is that bad, but others might disagree (still pretty short though), and an absolutely lackluster offline 'arcade mode', featuring only 6 SMALL portions of online maps, NO starfighter assault (?!!!), and 10 vs 10 bots/AI. There is another mode but its just that but with a timer. Its a VERY disappointing legacy to that of the original battlefront games.

However, if you do play the game and play the online mode, you might enjoy it, just as I have, as it offers much more content. I'd say maybe even return the game and repurchase it on sale later on after many updates and dlc (which will hopefully fix offline).

Thank you for the encouragement to try the online game play. But I really don't think I'll like it. Mostly because I find these first person shooter games extremely frustrating. I've only spent a total of 30 minutes playing the arcade mode with the timer. Couldn't stay alive for more than 15 seconds at a time. Unable keep up with my AI teammates, fell off of a landing platform, can't hit anything with the blaster, blew myself up with a grande, can't tell when I'm being shot and when I think I've found some cover, I get shot in the back. Spent more time respawning than playing. I can't survive the tutorial, but I'm expected to play against people with hero level characters that spend hundreds of hours playing. I don't know, maybe I should stick with the original Ratchet and Clank trilogy and Batman Arkham series.

I will try to explain some stuff in here.

Battle points is a system that is used only in online matches. When you perform any action that contributes to the match that is ongoing you earn amounts of battle points. Once you gain enough in that match, you can purchase powerful reinforcements to use on the field to help you win the match. That is it really.

In every match you start with 0 battle points and whatever you earn can only be used in that one match and after it is done it is reset to 0 for the next match so dont let them go to waste etc.

Credits are earned by playing anything include offline mode. The better you do and the longer you play, the more credits you will have. Once you gain enough credits you can permanently unlock powerful Heroes and purchase crates. 

Crates contain powerful star cards and crafting resources that you can use to craft even more star cards or upgrade the ones you already have. They can be bought with credits you earn while playing etc. Purchase this when you get enough credits to gain a more powerful arsenal to use in both online and offline content etc.

Star cards are powerful upgrades that you use on your unites to enhance your play style and grow stronger. They can be made by crafting them with crafting parts you get from crates or if you are lucky you can get them instantly from crates. Once you have the star cards you what, collect resources to upgrade them and make them more powerful (Epic purple level being the strongest). Do note as you increase your cards power it will need a higher level requirements to be achieved before you can upgrade them again. First is the resource requirement of course, second is your class level which you increase by having more star cards (every star card represents 1 level and every upgrade an additional level) and your overall ranking which you get by simply playing the game and getting XP.

Thank you for the explanation of the upgrade components. As I stated earlier, I have only 30 minutes of experience playing the in game tutorial. Although you gave a detailed account of each item, with out any context, I still don't fully understand when, why or how to use them. I'll spent some more time trying to figure it out.

Thanks again to those of you that have responded to my question. Looking back at my original post I noticed that not all of my questions were answered. Ok, yes I can level up with offline play. What about unlocking hero characters? A buddy of mine that has played BFI extensively, told me that it is technically possible. However, it will take literally thousands of hours of playing to unlock just one hero character. This is why EA put in the pay to win option, which I refuse to do. Is this true? I'm an adult with a full time job, bills to pay and a family to take care of. At best I get maybe 3 hours a week to play. How does EA expect players like myself to have an enjoyable online experience when we're being killed every 20 seconds? When your learning how to box, you don't start by fighting Mike Tyson.

You can level up and unlock characters if you are only going to play offline, but it will take 3 times longer to do so. Seeing as the max credits from online is roughly 300 per round, and offline is roughly 100. And that's on top of a leveling system that's designed to take long (a pay-to-win kinda system).

But luckily, offline gives you access to all locked heroes during matches. You just won't be able to upgrade them or have them in online.

Additionally to what was said above, all Hero unlocking takes less then 10 hours TOPS if you play online but offline it may take a little longer but as a bonus there you dont need to have them unlocked as they will already be unlocked for you but you wont be able to upgrade them as it was said above.

As for "pay to win" that no longer exists in any form as all micro transactions have been removed from the game. So now it is a full play to progress etc.

Thanks again. I'll just grind away playing the offline content. When I'm board, I'll toss it in the closet. Haven't played the game yet and I'm already annoyed, disappointed and angry. After seeing the adds for the game I was excited to play. Then I find out that none of that epic content is available to me. EA... your making a huge mistake to alienate those of us that don't play online. I'm done with you!
