I managed to get it fixed! Very complicated process, but I'll outline it for you all.
Talked to EA support and they were able to remove my Epic Games account from my EA account.
I uninstalled and reinstalled both origin, epic, and battlefront 2
I got Epic support to remove battlefront 2 from my Epic Games library
When everything finished downloading, I launched the game from steam and it worked!
The issue is in linking your origin and epic accounts. Once Epic can no longer interact with Origin, it should be fine.
Unlinking Epic from your Origin/EA account is not a fix if you have other games that were bought through EPIC that need ORIGIN.
In doing so, you will just stop other games from working.

It's unfortunate, that the only solution is to unlink Epic from origin, but since there is no solution out there yet, and most folks suffer from only linking this one game from Epic to origin, I think it's good enough. But it does not mean that EA shouldn't work on a fix for this issue, but it should resolve most of the problems, at least from what I think. Thez totalz need to fix it, but it should be ok for now. Like someone had put ducktape on it lol

Sorry if this has already been said....
I got it to work without unlinking.
Some said, if you log onto origin via the website, it shows in your library that you have BF2 from steam AND BF2 from Epic.
I found, if I double clicked to on BF2 Steam here, it said it will open the origin launcher, then the game launched and I could play it (I can't remember, I may have then double clicked BF2 in the launcher, but it did work by starting via the website first).
My achievements were all there, as all of those are done via ea/origin and not through steam or epic.
....and just to clarify, my BF2 install was via steam (not EPIC).
EA still need to sort this. The launcher needs to show both the epic and steam 'versions' of the game.

There seems to have been some movement forward.
My origin launcher now shows 2 x copies of BF2, one via STEAM & one via Epic.
However, the icon on desktop (which was through the STEAM install) still does not work. Origin launcher opens but comes up with same activation required message.
If I launch via the launcher, today since it was there I used the STEAM BF2, for some reason it opens the EPIC launcher and the EPIC Launcher shows the game is running.
So its not 100% fixed, but at least there is movement on it.

I take it back.
Now the ORIGIN launcher only showing EPIC BF2.
Am sure when I went to play earlier it had EPIC & STEAM BF2 just the same as what the website shows.
