Pressing "A" implies you want to change characters. Simply put, do not press A after a death. If you do get caught in the change characters screen, press B to unselect your hero, you should then be able to select any character not currently in play, including the one you were just using. Hope this helps!
I'm relatively new to the game, 2 months. But I have been frequently knocked out of re-using my character in HvV. I know it takes 6 seconds to select them again, but about 20 -30% of the time it locks me out of the character. Is there a permanent fix to this?

Ok, so yesterday I entered online multiplayer to test a few things, and surprisingly I think I triggered this BUG. It was in the heat of the moment, I didn't record it, and I did eventually fix it, but I'm sure I tried selecting my character again after dying and I couldn't.
Thing is, on PC we can select a character by either pressing space or double clicking. When I went back to selection screen after dying, my character was darkened as if I couldn't select him, and indeed pressing space a few times didn't let me select him. But then I just double clicked him and even though he was darkened, he immediately lightened and the game allowed me to pick him.
Next time I do my tests I'll try to always come back to selection screen and only use the space bar to try to get my character back and see if I can trigger this BUG again. No idea what might have caused it though, so I'll still have to rely on the RNG Gods for this one

The only characters it doesn't affect are Luke and Boba because they're in the first space, whatever significance that has. You're able to spam them until they're selectable again within the new six seconds

@icedfreon Thanks for pointing that out. Indeed it happened to me with Obi selected. I'll remember to avoid Luke and Boba when testing this out again
