It's risky but, with lower numbers playing BF2, can we get cross-platform play?

With lower numbers now playing BF2, is it possible to now get cross-platform play? 

It seems this past week has had really low numbers for PC players. I could be wrong, but XBOX and PS4 seems to still have decent numbers, but I feel like PC is really struggling. 

I understand controller vs. keyboard/mouse concerns. Perhaps though PC players could play with xbox/ps4 players if the game recognizes there is a controller active during gameplay? I play with an xbox controller on my PC and the game knows that I'm using a controller, so maybe this could be a way to allow cross-platform for PC (if there is a controller active).
