Similar to you, I'm using 388.13 with a GTX 1060 on Fall Creator's update. Working well for me.
Did you leave the default video settings at their defaults? The game seemed to recognize the card and set everything to max for me, so I didn't have to muck with anything.
Related, there was an issue with DirectX 12, so I'd leave that off for now.
As you seem to be up on your tech, I'm guessing you've already run stress tests outside the game to ensure all your tech (CPU, GPU, memory, storage) isn't having any issues.

Hmm. I randomly got the game to run for about 45 min straight yesterday without really doing anything different. But then it crashed the driver again between rounds.
Every other game runs fine (BF1 for example) just this one seems to cause issues. I'll look into stressing my system again but I'm leaning towards driver/game issues. I've tried DX12 but that doesn't seem to help either. Every other setting was left as default (ultra) I may try and turn them down and see if that does anything.
Thanks for your reply

I seem to have the same issue. I played for about 30 minutes and the game just froze and crashed to desktop with no errors. In the event viewer i see that the nvidia driver has crashed with message: "Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered."
Ever since this new 388.13 driver i had this issue.
