I have tried adjusting the brightness levels (both within the game itself and on my monitor), but it doesn't help.  It is still incredibly dark.  It is very frustrating.

@RockwellMoon yeah I also tried it with adjusting the brightness and it doesn't work. My try around this problem is to repeatedly press Esc because in the Pause Menu the game is brightened up accordingly.
