PS4 controllers keep shutting off and Battlefront 2 is likely responsible

(Sorry if this is in the wrong category, I don't post on gaming forums all that much.)

At first I assumed it was a technical error from the controller and not the game itself, that it wasn’t working properly. It has full battery and works normally in all of my other games, and even in the startup and spawn menus. But the moment I spawn into a game, it just shuts off for seemingly no reason. When I try to turn it back on it flickers then dies unless I'm quick enough to go to the home screen, in which case it says on.

What's even more peculiar is that this is happening with all three of my controllers, and it only occurs once I actually spawn on the map in either multiplayer, campaign or arcade mode. I'm even able to view the cutscenes in the campaign without my controller malfunctioning. This only happens once the gameplay starts.

I tried to reboot the PS4 and restart the game. Neither worked. Also, I played Battlefront 2 like eight hours ago, and experienced no abnormalities. In fact, I've been an avid player since launch and I've never had this happen.

Since this is only happening with one game once I actually start playing, I'm assuming that something is up with the game itself and not my controllers. My internet connection is fast and reliable. Like I've said, everything on the PS4 outside of Battlefront 2 is functioning normally, and this crash only occurs once I join a team and spawn.

Thoughts?

  • Hey @silveremilyy!

It's weird that's happening to your controllers for just Star Wars Battlefront II.

Try a quick power cycle to see if that helps. If not, it might be worth reinstalling the game to see if that clears this up. Perhaps one of the files got corrupted from an update.

How to power cycle: Touch the power button on the front of the PS4 for at least 7 seconds (until the system beeps twice). Turn it back on after 1 minute. Launch the game.
