There are 2 Milestones associated with the Kenobi! reward: Old Rivalry (1500 kills with Darth Maul) and Exact Revenge (3500 kills with Darth Maul). They don't specify which Kenobi! reward they give, but if you completed one of them, and found no emote unlocked, I suggest you then check Maul's Voice Lines and see if the Kenobi! VO is unlocked. The fact the crate you opened came empty doesn't mean anything, that's just a visual glitch, but you get the rewards anyway.

Emotes and Voice Lines are 2 different and separate things. But most Emotes have a VO counterpart that's just the voice line without the emote animation. You probably got the Voice Line instead of the emote, and you have to complete the Exact Revenge milestone to get the emote instead.

Check that in game and let me know if that's the issue, or if it isn't.
