Re: Star Wars Battlefront 2 crashing while loading campaign

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. I have searched through the forums but no one is facing the specific same issue which I am. My campaign just doesn't load at all. It loads once in  a while, I play it and next time I try to load it, it just crashes to desktop.

Here is the text in my dxdiag.

  • I'm having the exact same issue.  Sometimes it loads and I can play and other times it just crashes to desktop.  I can get to the first screen where I can play around with the options, check out the models of the characters, etc. but when I load into where I was in the mission it's hit or miss.

On top of that annoyance the game takes FOREVER just to load to the first screen and FOREVER to load into the campaign, IF I even get in without crashing.

I'm very close on just giving up on the game and would like a refund.  I'm not sure how to go about a refund but this is really ridiculous.

  • Sure it's attached.  It's so frustrating because I could play then can't, play then can't...I get all the way to the loading screen to start the campaign, appears like everything is fine then crash to desktop.

  • It's playing again.  I loaded it through GeForce Experience this time.  No idea as I've done that before and still experienced the ctd but for now it seems to be holding up....also load times were much faster.

@pratVader95- thanks for the DXdiag. I did notice that your internal graphics Intel HD 520 is not disabled? Make sure that it is turned off in the BIOS and only use the 940mx ensuring that you have the latest Nvidia drivers. Also turn of directx12. In the errors at the end of the report, I see a number of BEX64 errors. These can be attributed to graphics driver/setup problems causing game crashes.

@EmeriousNine - Hi. Try updating your Win 10 to a later version. Your current is Version 1803 (Build 17134). This version has a few bugs which is known to effect SWBFII. I think the next version 1809 fixed the bugs. Go to settings/update& security/check for updates

  • And it's crashing to desktop again after being able to play for awhile.  I've done the suggestions below and still ctd.

What is wrong with this game?  Why are so many players having this issue and no fix is being given, it's been going on forever it seems.  I've never experienced anything like this in the 30 yrs I've been gaming.  EA is a huge company so I just can't understand how this could be going on so long for so many players.

@EmeriousNineHi again - sorry to hear it is still not working. One of the problems in helping you to get a solution is the variety of PC setups/Windows versions. Sometimes what works for one doesn't for another.

When the game crashes to desktop, do the following: Windows key+R, type in  "Perfmon  /rel" when the page comes up, take a screenshot. You will see red dots(Critical events), blue dots (information) and yellow triangles (Warnings). Click on the critical dot on the relevant date of the crash and look for anything that references to Star Wars BF II or Origin. If you find any Click on VIEW TECHNICAL DETAILS and take another screenshot. Do the same for Warnings. Post screenshots here.

Other things that you can do is Turn off the Origin in game overlay and cloud saves in Origin application settings. Also turn on FPS and position/size to your comfort. Watch to see of the FPS gets too low before crashing.

Also Did you update Windows Version and have you disabled Directx 12? For Directx12, go to your documents/Star Wars Battlefront II/settings folder, Open Bootoptions file with notepad. 1st line should be " GstRender.EnableDx12 0", If it is just close, if not change the 1 to 0 and save.

The silly thing is that I can run every mode of the game on my PC without any problems others are having and I have a below minimum spec graphic card (GTX560). I can't even replicate your problems so I can see what's happening.

  • No I certainly appreciate your effort it's just very frustrating.  I actually was able to play just fine tonight so maybe the update did work.  I'll hopefully never be posting about this again, still feel so bad for all the other players.

  • Annnnnd crashed again.  Are you ever going to get back to me with any solutions?

@EmeriousNine- Damn!!! Run the perform /rel so I can maybe see what happened. One question to ask is (in your prior post it was running ok then later it crashed) what changed? For example, were there any additional/different or particular programs running in the background, was there a win update before it crashed, was there an error code when it crashed etc. Sometimes in our frustration, we miss the obvious.

Even though Campaign is a single person/offline game, it still has to sync data to the cloud save/ EA servers for milestones etc.

  • I know crazy right?  So today it loaded up and I just left the damn thing on and finished the first campaign! 🙂  What a brilliant story and I'm looking forward to playing the next, if I can and not get ctd.

I appreciate you helping me out ggibb65.  I have no idea what EA Tech Support does all day long but obviously they do not look at these forums as I've yet to hear from them, only community managers, and yet to hear of any fix.

So I'm crossing my fingers that it will load up fine for the next part of the story as I find it very well written and fun to play.

@EmeriousNine - Good to hear your playing, post again in this thread if it crashes again. If I don't see any, I know all is good. Campaign was my favourite - don't forget to look for hidden items (Milestones).
  • Thank you so much for your responses. Really appreciate you giving your time for this. I updated Windows and while the campaign loads more often than not, I'm getting a weird issue while playing both campaign and multiplayer. It just gives an error message saying Star Wars Battlefront II is shutting down because Origin client was closed. I have no idea what it means since Origin is still pretty much running. Here's a screenshot of that dialog box.

  • Hello, I am 3 years late, but this happened to me again. Here is the screenshot
