To be honest, I really hope that an another company will produce the next Battlefront game at this point...
@Player55 DICE did this to themselves.
I 100% believe that Tweet but I also think there’s a tad more to it that EA, clearly, would ever release.
EA’s exclusivity contract runs out next year. I don’t think that any of us believes that EA didn’t try to negotiate a renewal. I’m willing to bet the reason that the cost issue came to a head is due, in part, to Disney seeing the sales, reviews, and promotion strategy that was BF 2.
To produce BF 3 (and make a profit) the projections on required sales probably aren’t anywhere in the ballpark of what’s needed if the grim results from Battlefront 2 are any indicator. The overall reviews for BF 2 are grim and far lower than BF 1 and I don’t think anyone “at the top” at Disney was convinced that soaking money into an EA / DICE agreement would result in a profitable or good product.
Further, Disney is going ham on SW content right now. The last thing I think they’d want is a bomb of a game dragging down the franchise momentum.
With the Ubi / Massive announcement earlier I think that showed a clear light that the SW game direction was heading away from EA & DICE and for good reason.
Anyone would be hard pressed to find any basis to say that a BF 3 game by DICE would either be good or carry good reviews.
