Star Wars : The Clone Wars S1-5

Firstly, if you can't cope with differing opinions please stop reading now and click away 👍🏼

Secondly, this only relates to Seasons 1 through 5 of Star Wars The Clone Wars because I wanted to rewatch them before starting Season 6 and finally Season 7 ☺

I was intrigued by the Ahsoka Cult and endless battle raging between fans of TCW on the closed forum and couldn't really remember whether the series was any good from my first time watching it. I decided to give it another go.

I'll number my opinions so people can discuss specific things, if they wish...

  1. It felt a little like Filoni couldn't decide what age group he wanted to appeal to, so made the decision to include them all. I found myself rolling eyes at more Jar Jar hijinks and a few of the more childish storylines one moment and then watching relentless murder and violence another (I'm looking at you Ventress). Did it work? Yes, for many. Not for me. I was very tempted to read up about each episode or arc before watching, so as not to waste my time.
  2. Fleshing out of characters was greatly appreciated. More Yoda, more Mace, more Plo Koon, more...well, you get the idea. Watching just the Prequel movies before this, I found myself wondering who all the characters being slaughtered by Clones actually were! (Oh, spoiler alert, Order 66).
  3. Anakin darkside moments makes his fall in Ep III much more realistic. He loses his temper, gets angry at the Jedi Order and force chokes in malice enough to show his weakness to his own temperament. Plus the relationship between he and Padmé is fleshed out.
  4. Exploring the different planets, including Separatists, Republic and Neutral made the show more interesting. Episodes I through III are orientated around Coruscant, Geonosis, Kamino and Tattoine. I know a couple others are shown, particularly for battles but to visit and revisit so many systems made TCW stand out. Makes sense why there were so many TCW map requests too.
  5. It would have been appreciated if the episodes had been rearranged to match their arcs. Watching Season 1 and its singular episodes and then moving on to Season 2 or 3 when the episodes relate to one another, especially those relating to Season 1 and sometimes even earlier in the timeline. Well, it just got confusing at times. I found the online advice and chronological recommendation, but it was too late by then... 🤷🏼‍♂️
  6. There were some really good arcs. Definitely worth a mention. The two Mandalorian arcs (Death Watch terrorism and then Death Watch in league with Maul & Savage). Finishing up with the Ahsoka bombing arc was pretty decent too.
  7. There were some pretty bad arcs as well. R2D2s outing with the tiny frog general was probably the closest I came to skipping episodes. WAC was a painful character to watch.
  8. Finally, lightsaber battles. It's one of my favourite things about Star Wars. Duel of Fates, the final duel between Ani and Obi, Rey and Kylo fighting Snokes Imperial guard. TCW did not disappoint. Most episodes included a duel of some sort.

That's it really. I'm happy to discuss any or all points with fellow Star Wars fans. I'll probably add some once I've watched Seasons 6 & 7 too.
