I don't even understand why anyone thought that the current system is good for... anything, basically. Even the simple partner system was better in the first game, at least there you could effectively work with someone, even if it was just one person. But since they have a pretty good squad system in Battlefield, why couldn't they just implement it? Even with communication, this one is bad, because it's all over if someone dies - you just spawn with a bunch of other people next time.
I see what you mean and I agree with you. However I still see the current spawn wave system both as a very bad mechanic in itself and a solid foundation for a great mechanic.
It is maybe too late for the dev to implement a Battlefield like squad system, and they've already said that they want to do something different in Battlefront.
Plus, the spawn wave system (if made in a way to promote teamplay and incentivize players to stick together) addresses a long time issue that is around in the Battlefield series since a long time : random players spawns, then run towards the objectives without waiting for teammates to play with them. The battlefield squad system still has issue, but that's for a whole different topic.
So that said I do think that it's better to change the current system in place in SWBF II, because:
1) it's more simple and quicker for the dev to just adjust a system rather than make one from scratch
2) I really believe the current system is a foundation for something really good.
(Quick note : Now that the Battlefront subreddit is allowing feedback on core gameplay, it is time for me to post that feedback again. I'll drop you the link to the reddit thread once I'll do that, so you guys will be able to join the discussion.
