Two instances of the origin process for local coop?

Hey, I'm trying to play SW Battlefront (II) with my wife.

It's frankly ridiculous that I even have to write here, because EA could have just allowed local splitscreen coop instead of artificially removing that option for the PC version.

Anyway. I'm using ASTER to run two user accounts on the same PC and I wanted to start Origin on both accounts. But I got the error message that only one instance can run at a time.

I get it that due to the competitive nature of online games, Devs might want to restrict this, but then how am I supposed to play games with my wife on my PC?

Furthermore, if I manage to make it run (which would have to be by hooking API calls, I guess), it could be considered hacking. I probably have to buy another license of the game, too, so I would be very happy if I don't get banned for actually paying more money.. Is that possible?

Half-kind regards (they get kinder if you stop removing local splitscreen coop),

P.S: Everyone who wants to tell me to "just buy a console" may give me the couple hundred bucks necessary for that or just stay silent. And mouse+keyboard FTW.

    Hi all,

I have moved your post from Origin DE to the SWBF2 EN section.

    Thanks,

  • Hi @841facb85ecb9fb7! I see what you are trying to do and it's a tricky thing to say the least. I don't think its feasible but lets speculate a bit.

Now the first thing to realize is that even if you get several Origin clients running only 1 client can be logged into an account at the same time (to avoid people sharing Origin accounts most likely) so as a minimum you would need the game added to both your and your wifes Origin account.

As for Aster, I don't think that will work with complex AAA games like Battlefront II. I think the 2 game instances will conflict with each other within the same operating system.

The only way I see this running is software virtualization, but not ordinary virtualization (like virtualbox.org which is free) as that would slow down the game too much.

So, the only way I can think of is using something like unRaid, you can see a video from Linux Tech Tips about it here:

This is the only way I can think of right now. It way more difficult compared to just the game having split screen I agree, but sadly we didn't get split screen this time around. Perhaps not enough people would use ☹️
