I didn't want to wait for days, so I did all those troubleshooting steps at once along with deleting the local save game and reinstalling battlefront 2. Opening a crate still shuts down my xbox.

While I hesitate to call this solved after opening only one crate, I was able to open one today without my xbox shutting off. I'll let you know how the weekend goes.
EDIT: Whatever magic there was yesterday afternoon is gone. The daily crate shut off my xbox this morning (5/5).

One more additional question from me - would it be possible for you to create a new Microsoft account and test if the game behaves the same way there? At the moment, we're trying to determine if it's an account related issue or the problem might be connected with the hardware.

I created a new gamer tag (HuskyPrince9388), and claiming today's daily crate with that account, as well as my own account, shut off my xbox.

Unfortunately, our experts weren't able to reproduce the issue ☹️ However, they recommend opening dedicated posts for SWB2 on your routers, since it might be a problem with data transfer. This website might be useful if you're looking for further instructions on how to do it.
There is a chance that it might be a console specific issue as the problem is happening across two profiles on the same Xbox One and we haven't received many reports about it from other players. However, to test this you would have to log with your profile on a different device and play the game there 🤭

I have this exact same error on Xbox One X but it seems to only happen if I open the crate after playing the game. As in, if the first thing I do after signing in is open any crates, it's fine, but if i go to open a crate after playing any game mode, the Xbox shut down completely. Never does it in any other situation or in any other game.
I hope that the whole crate thing is being removed with season 2 anyway as it's a pretty pointless UI feature at this point.

I also am still having this problem. I have done all the recommended troubleshooting steps and it still happens. It sounds like a Xbox One X issue. But it is very concerning that it might damage the Xbox drive if it keeps doing this. Who plans on paying for the damages?

The patch did not fix the issue. I'm getting very frustrated with this issue and the lack of movement from support. I have reported many times on Twitter support.
I can confirm. Claiming crates is still shutting down Xbox One completely. Tried claiming the DC just there now for the first time post-patch.
This, along with being unable to quit to the menu after a round without the game freezing and requiring a restart, is making BFII very difficult to like on the One X at the moment...
I can confirm this bug has NOT been fixed. I logged back into battlefront and it crashed my Xbox One X Still.
Still happening as of today's patch. Is anyone at EA even listening?

This has been happening to me as well on my XBOX One X. I tried it this morning on my Xbox One S and it worked fine. I thought I'd uninstall and reinstall it on my X, but after reading some of these posts I'm not optimistic that will work.
I'm also affected by this. I don't think he's one of a few players. It seems to me after reading this post and another one I found on this site that there are several players affected by this.
Another patch and this is still happening. Please help. How many times do we have to ask?

I uploaded a video of this problem to EA, gone very quiet now.
